Arsenal will look to build on their win over West Ham when they take on Cardiff at the Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Here is the side Gooner Mac thinks Unai Emery will select for the game:

Goalkeeper:

Petr Cech appears to be Emery’s favoured option between the sticks right now and while his distribution with the ball may be suspect, he’s done very little to warrant losing his place so I expect we’ll see Bernd Leno on the bench once again on Sunday.

Defence:

Our defence was slightly better against West Ham compared to the horrendous performance at Chelsea but there is still huge improvements to be made at the back as we’re all over the place at times. However, with Laurent Koscielny still a couple of months away from returning from an Achilles injury and Sead Kolasinac out until November with a knee injury, we have to stick with the back four that’s started in every game so far. Stephan Lichtsteiner is pushing to make his full debut but I expect to see Hector Bellerin at right-back, Nacho Monreal on the left with Shkodran Mustafi once again alongside Sokratis in the middle of defence.

Midfield:

However, we should see a change in midfield as Lucas Torreira is expected to be handed his full debut in the middle of the park with Matteo Guendouzi making way. The young Frenchman has made an impressive start to life in England but he’s not ready to play week-in, week-out just yet so Torreira should come in on Sunday. Granit Xhaka splits opinion but he’s likely to be a regular under Emery for the time being so I think the Swiss star will keep his place with Mohamed Elneny having to make-do with a place on the bench.

Attack:

Aaron Ramsey was deployed in the advanced midfield role against West Ham and we could see the Welshman keeping his place at Cardiff to offer another pair of legs in the middle of the park.
Mesut Ozil missed the game last weekend due to illness but the German playmaker is back in contention for the trip to Wales. It will be interesting to see if he starts amid rumours he was due to be dropped against West Ham but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him played on the right – just as he was against Man City on the opening weekend. Alex Iwobi could be the man most likely to make way with Henrikh Mkhitaryan switching to the left flank while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is expected to keep his place up front despite not scoring yet this season. Alexandre Lacazette has made big impacts off the bench this season but Emery seems reluctant to play him with Aubameyang from the start so the Frenchman may have to settle for a sub role again on Sunday along with the likes of Danny Welbeck.

Arsenal

The Gunners have been handed a favourable draw but one which requires a lot of travelling during the week.

Qarabag, Sporting Lisbon and FC Vorskla are Arsenal's first-round opponents between now and the turn of the year.

Emery won an incredible three Europa League titles with Sevilla, and the Spaniard admits he wants to go deep into the competition, just as Arsene Wenger did last season.
"First it’s three teams and we’ll have respect for them,” he told reporters this afternoon.

Chelsea

. The Premier League giants are in the competition after only finishing in fifth place in the top flight last season, but the Blues will be pleased with their draw.

Maurizio Sarri's side have been handed games against PAOK - who finished second in Greece last year - and Belarusian champions BATE Borisov. They also meet Hungarian side Videoton, who lost out to AEK Athens in the playoff round for the Champions League.

Matchday One will take place on September 20.

Ramos caused controversy in last season's final after his clash with Salah forced the Egyptian off with a shoulder injury Sergio Ramos and Mohamed Salah had a very awkward reunion on Thursday evening. The Real Madrid defender outraged Liverpool fans far and wide for his challenge on Salah in last season’s Champions League final. Ramos hoists the Champions League trophy in May It led to the Egyptian being forced off early with a shoulder injury and Real went on to complete a 3-1 victory. One Liverpool fan started a petition to try and get Ramos banned from football after the incident, while Jurgen Klopp described Ramos as “ruthless and brutal” following the incident.
And Salah showed he was in no mood to forgive the Spaniard at the Champions League draw in Monaco on Thursday. Ramos was seated behind Salah and, after picking up the prize for best Champions League defender in 2017/18, tapped Salah on his left shoulder – the one he injured. While others around him congratulated Ramos, Salah didn’t even acknowledge him.

Below you can see some of the best tweets from Liverpool fans on Ramos’ behaviour.

Chelsea will be looking to maintain their 100% start to the new season when they take on Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon. Here is the side I think Maurizio Sarri will select for the game:

Goalkeeper:

Kepa Arrizabalaga has enjoyed a solid start to life in England following his world-record move from Athletic Bilbao so the Spaniard is certain to keep his place between the sticks again this weekend.

Defence:

David Luiz wasn’t at his best at St James’ Park last week but the Brazilian seems to be in favour under Sarri so I expect he’ll keep his place ahead of Gary Cahill and Andreas Christensen against Bournemouth. The new Blues boss has named the same back four in each of their opening three games so I don’t think he’ll make any changes on Saturday meaning Cesar Azpilicueta should once again start at right-back with Marcos Alonso on the left. Antonio Rudiger will line-up alongside Luiz in the middle of defence.

Midfield:

New signing Mateo Kovacic made his full debut against Newcastle and is expected to keep his place in midfield so the the Croatian international should line-up alongside N’Golo Kante this weekend. Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will therefore have to make-do with places on the bench as Jorginho is certain to retain his place after another excellent performance last week. Cesc Fabregas could return to the squad if he manages to prove his fitness after missing the opening three games but a place among the subs is the best he can hope for.

Attack:

Eden Hazard made his first start of the new campaign against Newcastle and was on the score-sheet during the 2-1 win so the Belgian international is likely to keep his place in attack on Saturday afternoon. Alvaro Morata appears to be ahead of Olivier Giroud in Sarri’s pecking order up front so the Spaniard could lead the line once again but the Chelsea manager may decide to mix things up with Willian coming in for Pedro.

Liverpool are facing a touch task as they – along with Tottenham, Manchester United and Manchester City – prepare for this evening’s Champions League group stage draw.

The four pots were finalised after the final round of qualifying fixtures were concluded last night and unfortunately for Liverpool they’ve been placed in pot 3 after Benfica thrashed PAOK on Wednesday night. It means the Portuguese giants take the final place in pot 2 leaving Liverpool in the third tier due to their UEFA coefficient ranking and facing the prospect of drawing two European giants in the group stages of the Champions League. Jurgen Klopp’s men could now be drawn in a nightmare ‘group of death’ along with Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan while Real Madrid, Napoli and Galatasaray is also a possibility. Last year’s finalists will therefore be hoping for some good luck in today’s draw and if things go their way they could end up with a favourable group containing Lokomotiov Moscow, Porto and Young Boys. Manchester City will obviously be in pot 1 as champions of the Premier League so they will avoid the big boys like Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid but they’ll be hoping to avoid a tricky draw that could see them pitted against Dortmund, Monaco and Inter.
Manchester United are in pot 2 along with Tottenham and will therefore face one of the top tier sides but both teams will be praying to be drawn against Lokomotiv Moscow. A nightmare draw for either United or Spurs would see them up against Barcelona, Monaco and Inter but a favourbale draw could see them face Moscow, PSV and Young Boys. It’s going to be exciting to see what the draw throws-up when it takes place at 5pm UK time later today. Here are the confirmed pots:

Pot 1:

Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Lokomotiv Moscow

Pot 2:

Borussia Dortmund, Porto, Manchester United, Shakhtar Donetsk, Benfica, Napoli, Tottenham, Roma

Pot 3:

Liverpool, Schalke, Lyon, Monaco, CSKA Moscow, Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, Valencia

Pot 4:

Viktoria Plzen, Club Brugge, Galatasaray, Young Boys, Inter Milan, Hoffenheim, Crvena zvezda, AEK Athens

Some senators are threatening to leave the ruling All Progressives Congress should the party fail to adopt direct primaries for the 2019 elections. They alleged that some governors are applying pressure on the national leadership of the party to adopt indirect primaries to choose candidates for the 2019 elections. If the party adopts the usual indirect primary, the senators said, the party will lose its majority status at the Senate. For them, the only way to reclaim leadership of the senate is an assurance of direct primaries by the party. Direct primaries involves the participation of all party members in the selection of party candidates while indirect primaries involves use of delegates, often party leaders at local levels and political appointees as well as elected officials, to elect party candidates. The APC used the direct primaries to elect its governorship candidate in Osun for next month’s governorship election. Prior to that, it often used the indirect primaries system. The ruling party will on Thursday hold its first National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting since Senate President Bukola Saraki left the party. The meeting is expected to deliberate on the party’s preparation for the 2019 elections especially its primaries. APC NEC, the second highest organ of the ruling party, comprises the president, vice president, governors elected under the platform of the party as well as chairpersons of the party in the 36 states.

DIRECT OR INDIRECT PRIMARIES

Controversy over the choice of primaries for the party started in July when the chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, declared the party will adopt direct primary method in Osun State in choosing a candidate ahead of the state’s governorship election.
Mr Oshiomhole said the method remains the “most democratic way of handling the primary.” National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, (APC), Adams Oshiomhole (m), addressing State House Correspondents after a meeting with the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari at the State House Abuja on Monday (23/7/18). With him are Spokesperson for President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2019 Campaign, Festus Keyamo (L) and former member of the House of Representatives from Birnin-Kudu in Jigawa State. The party went ahead employing the method to choose its candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, but the process did not go down well with some of the aspirants. Prominent among the voices against the method was the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf, who was runner up in the primary.
Yusuf Lasun “I did not accept the outcome of the primary election. Why would I accept that kind of primary, where a direct primary was conducted in my state, one week after another form of primary was conducted in another state. “And I hope the chairman will wake up. That chairman is going to destroy that party. The chairman of that party is going to destroy it,” the lawmaker said. However, many lawmakers, especially those who fell out with their governors in the last state congresses, wants the party to adopt direct primaries to choose candidates for the 2019 election.

MASS DEFECTION AWAITS – LAWMAKERS

Three senators who spoke with the media expressed fears over the possibility of deploying indirect primaries for the APC primaries. They alleged that some governors are laying pressure on the party leadership to deploy indirect primaries in order to replace them come 2019. One of the lawmakers who spoke on condition of anonymity said the party should brace itself for mass defection if the NEC resolves to adopt indirect primaries. “I am aware the National Chairman and members of the NWC are under pressure from state governors to adopt indirect primaries. Most of us suffered injustice during the Congress. Till this moment, the leadership is yet to resolve the issues. We will not tolerate injustice again.
“For me, the next NEC meeting is a make or mar meeting for our party. The APC has assured us of justice through direct primaries. If the party bows to governors, we will have no option than to leave the party. It will be mass exodus,” the senator said. In July, 14 APC senators left the party with at least 12 joining the major opposition, PDP. Few weeks after their defection, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, also announced his defection to PDP. Bukola Saraki, Senate President Following his announcement, some senators and leaders of the APC have continued to mount pressure on Mr Saraki to relinquish his position since his party does not have majority at the senate. Another senator who prefers not to be named said the party will lose its majority status at the Senate if the governors have their way. The senator said the governors are ready to replace up to 90 per cent of the federal lawmakers if the party allows delegates to choose candidates for the party. “With the war that exist between the party and Saraki, the party has confidentially resolved to return the senators because it is dangerous to come back on 25th when some people don’t have assurances. “The governors have their individual agenda because the people whom they want cannot win election by direct primaries. If you cannot win by direct primary, it means that you are unpopular and the party cannot bring people who cannot win election. “The party will be heading into trouble because it will be the Senate Presidency that will be at stake at the National Assembly. The point is that if you have an indirect primary election, the governors will replace up to 90 per cent of existing federal legislatures. Now, that will be playing into the hands of the PDP,” the lawmaker said. The senator said the party risks losing at least 20 senators if it tolls the line of indirect primary.
“The moment the Senate resumes, the conflicting figure we have now is that PDP are saying they are the majority, APC are saying they are the majority, what do you take for consideration? We have up 20, 30 APC senators without a ticket and they have nothing to lose (if they leave the party). “Let us get there first, because we were kept in the party on the promise that it is going to be a direct primaries. If the party says Saraki must go, who is going to remove Saraki, is it the governors? We are in a tango. The governors must concede, they must keep their heads down. “We’ll see what happens but I can tell you that the Saraki group are waiting for those eliminated in the APC to join them.” Another senator, Shehu Sani, expressed his dislike for indirect primary in a statement sent to media on Wednesday. The senator representing Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani “Indirect Primaries is a boulevard to corruption. It’s a seed to imposition, manipulation and systematic desecration of the anti-corruption crusade of the government and the party. “Indirect Primaries is a bidding process, a slave market and an auction house where price tag is placed to honour,” he noted. Urging all members of the party to reject the method, Mr Sani described it as a “final step to consolidate a fraudulent congresses.”

APC At Liberty To Choose – Ambode

The Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode, has said that the party is at liberty to employ either direct or indirect primary in choosing its candidates. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state He said this while responding to questions from journalists after an APC caucus meeting on Wednesday. “The fact remains that the constitution of our party allows us to carry out our primaries and elections using direct or indirect primaries. “We cannot disagree with the constitution so either direct or indirect primaries, you are at liberty to justify the choice you want to pick, once it suits your purpose and in line with constitution as the state determines. “The whole essence is for us to deepen democracy and also allow our members to participate in this whole process. The idea is once you have party members that are able to take decisions on who should represent them, I think we would have gone a step higher and better than other parties, that makes us a better party,” he said.

DECISION WILL BE MADE THURSDAY – APC

When contacted, the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party, Yekini Nabena, said the party will take a position on the issue on Thursday. “We’ll know the position of the party after tomorrow’s NEC meeting. The party has already made a proposal, it’s going to be either direct or indirect primary,” he said.

Ed Woodward has put Jose Mourinho in his place

There are troubled times at Old Trafford already this season with seemingly everybody upset with everyone. United chief Woodward has been tasked by the powers above him to keep the manager in check and, with his latest move, that is exactly what he has done.
Despite risking the wrath of the Portuguese coach, who has yet to complete a third season at a club, he has gone against his wishes completely. His agent revealed that he wanted to go elsewhere to improve his first-team chances after missing out on France's World Cup squad which went on to win the tournament. The Brazilian is a tried and tested option for the ex-Blues manager - having won the Premier League with him in 2014/15. Reports emerged that Mourinho went behind his boss' back and offered Martial to Chelsea in a swap deal for Willian, which did not materialise.
Furthermore, Martial is expected to sign the new deal - because he believes he will be there long after Mourinho leaves. The France star is determined to make his United dream come true, even if it means sticking it out under the the former Real Madrid boss.

Mourinho has dropped the former Monaco forward from his squad on numerous times but Martial has been emboldened by the club's reluctance to sell him.

Chelsea and former Nigerian international Victor Moses has said that Ross Barkley has been the best player in training recently. Barkley who was named among the Chelsea's bench over their 2-1 win against newcastle, with goals from Eden Hazard from spot kick and Marcos Alonso effort that lead to own goal.
The England midfielder arrived at Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window but found opportunities limited under Antonio Conte and also spent time on the sidelines with a recurrence of a hamstring injury that kept him out of action at former club Everton during the first half of last season. With Maurizio Sarri replacing Conte as head coach in the summer it has brought about fresh start for the 24-year-old. As reward for impressing in pre-season, Barkley started the Community Shield loss against Manchester City before keeping his place in victories against Huddersfield Town and Arsenal in the Premier League.
That sequence of starts did come to an end last Sunday against Newcastle United as Sarri opted for loan signing Mateo Kovacic in central midfield alongside N'Golo Kante and Jorginho instead. However, it would appear that the response from Barkley has been spot on as it was his name which was put forward by Moses when asked who has been the best player in training of late. "Everyone has been good, everyone is working hard but I’d say Ross Barkley," Moses told the club's official website. "He had a big injury but he’s started the season really well and he’s working his socks off."
That would mean a place on the bench for Barkley but at least he's showing the right attitude in training and he does look set to play a major role for the Blues as the season progresses.

Thibaut Courtois created a ruckus to push for a move to Real Madrid, and when he finally got his move, he should have been on top of the world as throughout the transfer window the goalkeeper had indicated that he didn’t want to turn up for Chelsea again. The player left his former club with a bad taste in the mouth as the London club did not have any idea about his whereabouts when he was expected to report for training, and later he was given his so-called dream move to the Spanish capital.
However, his dream is turning into a nightmare as he is yet to make a single appearance for Real Madrid. Julen Lopetegui has trusted Costa Rican custodian Keylor Navas for now, and he has put in convincing performances to show who is the real no.1 at Real Madrid. The Belgian would have thought that after winning the golden glove at the World Cup, he would be preferred over his South American counterpart for a place in the starting eleven. But it’s the Belgian who has been warming the bench so far. Navas has again pushed his level up a notch as in the three games where he has featured; the Costa Rican has hardly put a foot wrong. Credit to the South American that he still gives his all even though there have been doubts over him for quite a few years now. The fans seem to realise the importance of having him finally. Maybe after seeing the performance of David De Gea in the World Cup for Spain made Real Madrid think twice about going in for a new goalkeeper when Navas had played a crucial role in their three consecutive Champions League triumphs.
The Madrid gaffer recently explained the goalkeeping situation and was quoted as saying,”It’s not a situation that’s easy to understand, but it’s simple enough to explain. I’ve got some really good options in goal and there are no problems in that area. We’ll decide what’s best for each game. ‘Keylor got the nod today and did very well. There’s great competition and that makes us stronger in the goalkeeping department. I’ve got some thoughts in my mind, but I’m not going to share them.”
The thought could very well be that Courtois would take part in cup competitions and Navas would continue to be the no.1 choice in La Liga. However, that might not go too well with the fans as they seem impressed with how Navas has performed so far. Even when Courtois gets a chance to showcase his abilities, he would be heavily scrutinised, and a mistake or two would certainly not bode for his future with the Los Blancos.

Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso on Wednesday in Abuja declared his intention to contest the 2019 presidential election on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Addressing a large crowd of supporters at the Chida Hotel, venue of the event, Kwankwaso bemoaned what he described it as a collective disillusionment, disappointment and the pervasive air of hopelessness in our country. Kwankwaso said, “I stand on my honour to offer a paradigm shift in leadership. There is no gainsaying that all is not well with the polity. It is also clear that the same mind-set that created and escalated the problems cannot be used in resolving the on-going crises in our nationhood and national development. “I offer positive change. Change has again become inevitable. To live is to witness changes because change is an inseparable part of living. Come May 2019, the narrative of helplessness, buckpassing, division, poverty, insecurity and hopelessness must change for a new dawn of confidence in building a one well restructured Nigeria. “I assure you that while I do not have the prophetic power to predict the future. We certainly have in us the ability to create the future that we want”. He promised to offer a value based leadership anchored on national ethics, discipline, integrity, dignity of labour, social justice, religious tolerance, self-reliance and patriotism.
“I will provide a leadership where everybody is free and equal; where Nigerians see themselves as Nigerians first and as Ibo, Yoruba, Hausa, ljaw, lbibio, Fulani, etc. “Where citizens are self-assured and self-assertive; where they are confident and competent, where they want to do what is right no matter whose ox is gored. I want to lead a Nigeria where people are educated and exposed beyond the confines of their tribe, religion, linguistic group or place of birth. “l want to lead a Nigeria where citizens respect their leaders and leaders lead and forge a team to promote and protect the interest of all Nigerians. “I want to lead a Nigeria where all are comfortable anywhere and on any positive issue can compete fairly with their peers without favour or discrimination. That is the kind of Nigeria we envision. We will abandon the failed relics of the past. We have all it takes to make Nigeria good and made for all”, Kwakwaso added.
The former Kano Governor decried what he described as the constant misuse of security apparatus and called for an immediate stop to it. He harped on the need to strengthen all democratic institutions in the country and promised to create an all-inclusive mechanism for effective intelligence gathering that involves all stakeholders if elected. The lawmaker observed that the nation’s security agencies were overstretched, ill equipped, unmotivated and deprived, saying they cannot give maximum performance under the circumstance. He said, “We shall motivate all affected communities; the military and the police to put an end to all killings. There is absolutely no excuse whatsoever for killings by Boko Haram insurgents, herdsmen, crop farmers, kidnappers, human traffickers and abductors. We will provide an atmosphere where there will be security, safety, serenity and sanity”. The presidential aspirant decried what he called weak economic performance, due to tight economic policies and failed institutional supervision. He identified tight monetary rates, exchange rate fluctuations, inflation and unemployment to be the dominant factors hindering the growth and survival of businesses in the country. “Therefore, our focus shall be on sound economic policies that will ensure a new regime of exchange rate stability, low interest rates and reduction in the country’s rising burden of domestic and foreign loans. “In the past three years, poverty and unemployment have become more visible, challenging Nigeria’s economic prosperity. Existing policies and economic programmes for alleviating the poverty incidence in the country have obviously failed. “Our non-negotiable goal will therefore be the eradication of poverty through sustainable wealth creation and a coordinated and effective micro small and medium enterprises development. “We shall promote policies that boost our foreign reserves and lower interest rate to ensure that the unsustainable debt treadmill profile is tamed.
“Locally, we shall diversify the economy through industrialisation and manufacturing, aggressive promotion of agribusiness; and develop the mining sector and entrepreneurship to make us self sufficient and export oriented. The oil and gas sector must cease to be a verifiable source of corruption and inefficiency”.

Arsenal star player Mesut Ozil has returned to training after missing Saturday's win over West Ham at the Emirates through what the manager said that it is illness. Former Germany international played no part in the very much needed win of the Unai Emery era, a 3-1 triumph, courtesy of strikes from Nacho Monreal, Danny Welbeck and an Issa Diop own goal.

Ozil had started Arsenal's first two Premier League games off the season, but was substituted in the second of those, the 3-2 loss against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. His absence against West Ham led to rumours of a training ground bust up with Unai Emery, which the Spanish manager quickly denied.

The 29-year-old has had a turbulent summer, retiring from the German national team after their group stage exit from the World Cup. However, he was pictured training at London Colney this afternoon and could be back in contention for the trip to Cardiff on Sunday.

Non-league Litherland REMYCA have been kicked out out of the FA Cup over an unpaid £10 fine.

The Merseyside club unknowingly used a suspended player in their 4-2 win over Charnock Richard in the extra-preliminary round on August 11.
The player, at the time, was facing a one-match ban for not paying an "administrative fine" at his previous club and the ban was carried over from the previous season. Litherland, a non-league club based in Merseyside , said "the fine carried over without our knowledge nor that of the player from the previous club."

A club statement read:

"This is a massive blow with numerous implications, including financial issues as part of the penalty includes removal of prize money and future gate and match day income. "The sanctions for a minor administration technicality are considerable, but we must dust ourselves down, learn from the experience and come back stronger."
Charnock have been reinstated and will face Leek Town in the preliminary round on September 4. Litherland play in the North West Counties League Premier Division and face AFC Emley in the FA Vase on Friday. The full statement on the club's website read: "Following a series of hearings at Wembley the club have been eliminated from the FA Cup and the tie awarded to Charnock Richard FC, who we beat in the previous round. "They will now play Leek Town FC in the next round.
"It has been a difficult week for the club following disclosure that a REMYCA player was on the system as suspended for non payment of an administrative fine of ten pounds. "This matter concerned a player who was not at the club last season, but the fine carried over without our knowledge nor that of the player from the previous club. "It was flagged up following a recent game and subsequently picked up by the FA who have brought this action. "Despite what we considered a strong case and representation at appeal hearings, today the FA have considered their case regarding the ineligibility of the player as proven. "This is a massive blow with numerous implications, including financial issues as part of the penalty includes removal of prize money and future gate and match day income. "The sanctions for a minor administration technicality are considerable, but we must dust ourselves down, learn from the experience and come back stronger.
"No further comments will be made on this issue. "We now move on to face AFC Emley in the FA Vase on Friday."

The United States Government has refused to comment or deny a statement credited to President Donald Trump, that Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari was “lifeless”, following a visit to the White House earlier this year.
Aruba Amirthanayagam, who is Counselor for Public Affairs, US Embassy, while speaking in Minna, Niger State on Tuesday during his visit to Zubair Idris, the Executive Director of Prestige FM Radio, said: “We have no specific comment on that, a newspaper published it, the paper should comment on it”. Amirthanayagam also said that it will not take side in the Nigeria’s 2019 general election, saying it wants the winner to be elected in a free and fair contest. “And we will do all we can to assist Nigeria’s government. “The United States expects that the 2019 general elections will be free and transparent.
“I think we should repeat the success we had in the last election because we have had elections in some parts of Africa that have not gone well. What we got in 2015 was great for Nigeria and for the rest of Africa and other developing countries,” he said.

The Special One has come under immense pressure in recent times following the defeat to Spurs. It was the worst home defeat Mourinho has suffered ever in his time as a manager. It follows an embarrassing loss to Brighton the week before, that has had fans fuming.
After the match vice-chairman Ed Woodward was noticeably upset, with an image of him in the sands looking furious going viral. "They are saying Jose will be gone soon," a source told the Daily Mail on Tuesday night. "Some think he’ll be out if they lose at Burnley. Others can’t see him lasting beyond September.
"We’ve seen this before and it just feels the same. The club will say it’s supporting Jose but we all saw what happened with Louis. The players are already talking about the possibility of Zidane coming in."

Antonio Rudiger is fed up with comparisons between Maurizio Sarri's Chelsea and that of former manager Antonio Conte, with the Blues' class of 2018-19 currently sat among the Premier League pacesetters. A 2-1 win away at Newcastle on Sunday means that Sarri has overseen a perfect start to life in English football - with three victories collected from as many games. The Italian has made several changes at Stamford Bridge following his arrival over the summer, with fresh faces drafted in to encourage a new style of play.
Rudiger is among those to have been ever-present in Sarri's starting XI so far and is happy with the progress being made, with the Germany international eager to keep focus locked on the present and not dwell on the past under Conte. "Stop comparing. I don't want to speak about the past. As you can see, we do a lot of ball possession and try to press high," Rudiger said at St James' Park. "Yeah, that's a good sign [to come back]. It meant we are ready – it was a difficult game but in the end, with a bit of luck, we fully deserved this win. "But if you saw the whole game, I wouldn't say that it's luck. Game-by-game I think it's getting better and that's our target. Before the internationals, we'll try to win all of our games and then come back after and go on. At the end of the day, the three points are more important because the performances will come definitely. "If I saw this game and the game against Arsenal in the first half and the last 20 minutes, we're improving. But, for me, especially for everyone, three points are important."
Chelsea started against Newcastle with what could be their first choice line-up, with Sarri calling on Eden Hazard from the off for the first time, while Mateo Kovacic came in ahead of Ross Barkley. Hazard was influential once again on Tyneside and his performance was rewarded with a goal, as his confident penalty made it 1-0. Rudiger was quick to praise the Belgian forward afterwards and thinks that Sarri now boasts huge depth to a star-studded squad. "I think for the coach it isn't an easy choice because at the front we have really good quality players and of course Eden is one of them," he continued. "But we had Willian on the bench. It's not easy for the coach but it's good to have many, many options. Competition brings out the best in everyone. It's good like that. "For the attackers, it's good because we mostly have the ball. It's good for those players. To make those players defend is not their strength, especially Eden. But players like N'Golo [Kante] and Mateo are a good mix. Those two players can attack and also defend as well. "Ok, it's a good thing to always have the ball but it's normal that you lose it. So we need big players to come to the back and I think N'Golo and Kovacic did very good." Kepa Arrizabalaga and Jorginho also played their part against the Magpies as Chelsea looked to involve all of their summer signings, except for Rob Green, who was signed to be the club's third choice goalkeeper.
Jorginho took many plaudits as Chelsea controlled the game against Rafael Benitez's side. He touched the ball 186 times, matching the record set by Manchester City's Fernandinho since Opta started taking records in 2003-04. He also made 173 passes, which was just one short of the record set by Ilkay Gundogan last season. Rudiger says that Chelsea's players are always looking to the Italy international, who has already proven himself to be pivotal in Sarri's overhauled system. "I don't know about statistics but of course he is one of our target players and he is very comfortable on the ball, which is good," he concluded.
