Chelsea and former Nigerian international Victor Moses has said that Ross Barkley has been the best player in training recently. Barkley who was named among the Chelsea's bench over their 2-1 win against newcastle, with goals from Eden Hazard from spot kick and Marcos Alonso effort that lead to own goal.
The England midfielder arrived at Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window but found opportunities limited under Antonio Conte and also spent time on the sidelines with a recurrence of a hamstring injury that kept him out of action at former club Everton during the first half of last season. With Maurizio Sarri replacing Conte as head coach in the summer it has brought about fresh start for the 24-year-old. As reward for impressing in pre-season, Barkley started the Community Shield loss against Manchester City before keeping his place in victories against Huddersfield Town and Arsenal in the Premier League.
That sequence of starts did come to an end last Sunday against Newcastle United as Sarri opted for loan signing Mateo Kovacic in central midfield alongside N'Golo Kante and Jorginho instead. However, it would appear that the response from Barkley has been spot on as it was his name which was put forward by Moses when asked who has been the best player in training of late. "Everyone has been good, everyone is working hard but I’d say Ross Barkley," Moses told the club's official website. "He had a big injury but he’s started the season really well and he’s working his socks off."
That would mean a place on the bench for Barkley but at least he's showing the right attitude in training and he does look set to play a major role for the Blues as the season progresses.
