Thibaut Courtois created a ruckus to push for a move to Real Madrid, and when he finally got his move, he should have been on top of the world as throughout the transfer window the goalkeeper had indicated that he didn’t want to turn up for Chelsea again. The player left his former club with a bad taste in the mouth as the London club did not have any idea about his whereabouts when he was expected to report for training, and later he was given his so-called dream move to the Spanish capital.
However, his dream is turning into a nightmare as he is yet to make a single appearance for Real Madrid. Julen Lopetegui has trusted Costa Rican custodian Keylor Navas for now, and he has put in convincing performances to show who is the real no.1 at Real Madrid. The Belgian would have thought that after winning the golden glove at the World Cup, he would be preferred over his South American counterpart for a place in the starting eleven. But it’s the Belgian who has been warming the bench so far. Navas has again pushed his level up a notch as in the three games where he has featured; the Costa Rican has hardly put a foot wrong. Credit to the South American that he still gives his all even though there have been doubts over him for quite a few years now. The fans seem to realise the importance of having him finally. Maybe after seeing the performance of David De Gea in the World Cup for Spain made Real Madrid think twice about going in for a new goalkeeper when Navas had played a crucial role in their three consecutive Champions League triumphs.
The Madrid gaffer recently explained the goalkeeping situation and was quoted as saying,”It’s not a situation that’s easy to understand, but it’s simple enough to explain. I’ve got some really good options in goal and there are no problems in that area. We’ll decide what’s best for each game. ‘Keylor got the nod today and did very well. There’s great competition and that makes us stronger in the goalkeeping department. I’ve got some thoughts in my mind, but I’m not going to share them.”
The thought could very well be that Courtois would take part in cup competitions and Navas would continue to be the no.1 choice in La Liga. However, that might not go too well with the fans as they seem impressed with how Navas has performed so far. Even when Courtois gets a chance to showcase his abilities, he would be heavily scrutinised, and a mistake or two would certainly not bode for his future with the Los Blancos.
