How Wike survived 5 as
There were at least five assasination attempts on the life of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, in the last eleven months, Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr Austin Tam-George said yesterday. The commissioner who claimed that in one of the instances, two police officers were offered N150 million to carry out the dastardly act, described the recent denials by the Police that the governor’s life was at risk, as callous and insensitive. Tam-George’s statement came a day after the governor claimed that the new Commissioner of Police was posted to the state by the IGP with specific instruction to eliminate him. Tam-George claimed that the opposition party in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC) declared a full scale war on the state government and people of Rivers State immediately they lost the governorship litigation at the Supreme Court in 2016. “The first attempt to kill the governor was made immediately after the Supreme Court verdict,” he said. Dr Tam-George recalled that the governor’s Chief Security Officer (CSO) was removed without any explanation, adding that the six police officers dismissed by the police in January played a key role in foiling the series of attempts to kill the governor. The commissioner further alleged that after several attempts to assassinate Governor Wike failed, an offer of N150 million was made to two of the six dismissed police officers, to kill the governor, but they declined. “We call on the Interpol and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to lead an independent inquiry into why those gallant and patriotic officers were dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force on spurious charges of misconduct,” the commissioner said. He also alleged that as part of its preparations to seize Rivers State in the 2019 elections, the APC-led Federal Government was already considering a range of “escalatory measures” against Wike and some key leaders in the state. But the state Police Command’s spokesman, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, has dismissed the allegations as false. Omoni, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), in a phone interview, said the Command was neither aware of assassination attempts on the governor, nor has he (Wike) reported any assassination attempt on him in any police station. The PPRO said he was about going into a meeting with the Police Commissioner over the matter, at press time. Twenty-four hours earlier, the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, had refuted claim that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, ordered the state Police to kill Wike. In a statement on Sunday, the Force spokesman said: “There was no time, either recently or in the past, that the Inspector-General of Police gave an order or assignment to the Commissioner of Police of Rivers State or any police officer anywhere in the country to kill His Excellency, Barrister Nyesom Wike, the Executive Governor of Rivers State. “His Excellency should put into cognisance national security and that of the people of Rivers State as against any personal, political or group interest, and resist the use of personal grudges, grouse and sentiment to attack the hard earned personality of the Inspector-General of Police to cast aspersion on the statutory roles of the Force in ensuring utmost protection of life and property of all Nigerians.” Rather than plot the assassination, the statement said Governor Wike and his office were being protected by 221 police personnel. The detachment, according to the Police, included an Aide-de-Camp, Chief Security Officer, Unit Commanders from the Special Protection and Counter-terrorism units, respectively, an escort commander, camp commander, administrative officer and 54 Inspectors of Police. The team also included 136 sergeants and 24 corporals. “Obviously, the total number of 221 police personnel attached to the Governor of Rivers State is more than the strength of some Police Area Commands formation in some States of Nigeria. “This is done to ensure optimum safety and protection of the Executive Governor of River state; he said

Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has commended Turkish Government and her people for their bold support for the restoration of Biafra. A statement by the Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Mr. Emma Powerful said the Turkish Government and her citizens publicly pledged to put in motion, an effective strategy that will help in the restoration of Biafra and to also facilitate the release of its leader, Kanu and others detained illegally. The group stated: “On April 7, 2017, the Turkish Government in Ankara extended its good hand of recognition to the people of Biafra in Turkey and our supreme leader, Nnamdi Kanu who has been the subject of illegal and humiliating incarceration in Kuje Prisons, Abuja.” “It must be stated for the benefit of those who do not know that Kanu has, on two separate occasions been granted bail, one of which is an unconditional release by two separate courts of competent jurisdiction. Despite the fact that court orders are legally binding laws, President Muhammadu Buhari and the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami have refused to obey these orders. “This welcome recognition and support from the Turkish Government and her citizens prove to the world that the unique model of liberation adopted by our leader is yielding the desired results. This is because Biafra is presently at an unprecedented height, both in terms of global acceptability and grassroots awareness, never witnessed before.” “Turkish Government also promised IPOB members under the leadership of Kanu that they will take the struggle for Biafra independence to the United Nations and other relevant organisations in the world. “Turkish Government and her citizens have opened the way for other conscientious countries of the world to stand bold to defend the oppressed people of Biafra in Nigeria.” Powerful stated.

The House of Representatives has mandated its committees on Information and Culture, National Orientation, Ethics and Values to interface with the Nigeria Communications Commissions (NCC), and conduct an inquiry into planned introduction of a new price regime by Statelite Television company, MNET for its DSTV and GOtv subscribers. The joint comittee, which will also investigate failure of MNET to adopt the “pay as you go” option for Nigerian subscribers, is to report back to the House in eight weeks, for further legislative action. The resolution o§f the House was subsequent to the adoption of a motion entitled: “Need to Investigate the Exorbitant Charges and Refusal of Multi-choice Statelite Television to Adopt Pay- as -You -Go Pakage Option”, sponsored by Abbas Tajudeen. Tajudeen in his lead debate on the motion, described as highly insensitive, the trend in which the prices of different bouquet Multichoice Satellite Television outlets have been increased in recent years . He also condemned the refusal of the company to offer “pay- as- you- go” option on its digital satellite television, which he said is causing a financial strain on its subscribers. According to him, it has been the practice for the company to increase the price of it’s various packages almost on a yearly basis. “In 2013, the monthly subscription increased by 7-10 percent in 2014 by 10-15 percent and in 2015 by 10-22 percent and just recenltly, the company sent a notification of another price increase with effect from May “DSTV does not have a pay- as- you- go plan like most similar communication companies around the world , thereby making its subscription plan to expire at the end of the monthly subscription period, whether or not the subscriber uses the services,” he said. He argued that the regular increase in the prices of the various bouquet and MNET”s failure to adopt a “pay- as -you- go” payment option goes against globally acceptable fair business practice. He expressed concern on the seeming inability of the relevant regulatory agencies to police the industry. The motion was unanimously adopted by members when it was put to a voice vote by the Deputy Speaker, Yussuff Lasun who presided over the plenary.

WE'RE NOT INCREASING PETROL PRICE -NNPC
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has ruled out plans to increase the price of petrol, saying the recent increase in the bridging allowance to transporters from N6.20 to N7.20 per litre will not lead to an increase in the pump price of fuel. The Chief Operating Officer (COO), NNPC Downstream Operations, Mr. Henry Obih, said there was no plan by government or any of its agencies to raise the pump price of petrol above N145 per litre. He explained that the rise in the bridging cost was achieved after an adjustment was made in the “lightering expenses” from N4 to N3 per litre and that the difference transferred to compensate for the cost of bridging was within the same template. Bridging allowance is the cost element built into the products pricing template to ensure a uniform price of petrol across the country, while lightering expenses involve charges for moving products to depot area from mother vessels by light vessels due to the inability of the former to berth in shallow water. “What happened, in simple language, is a rebalancing of the margins allowed and approved for stakeholders. So what the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) did was to take N1 from lightering expenses and add same to the bridging allowance. That is how we arrived at N7.20. Therefore, PMS remains at the ceiling of N145 per litre,’’ he said. On the availability of product supply, Obih said as at today, the country had 1.3 billion litres of petrol, which translated to an inventory of 36 days. “What this means is that even if we stop importation or refining of petrol right now, we have enough products in-country to provide for the needs of every Nigerian for a period of 36 days,’’ he said. He noted that the supply availability was bolstered with the production of petrol from the three refineries located in Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna. “There is absolutely no risk of shortage in supply as we also continue to import to support the production from the refineries. We have informed the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), to enforce the prevailing N145 per litre price regime and also ensure that every service station that has fuel is selling to the public,’’ he said. The COO reiterated the readiness of the NNPC management under the leadership of Dr. Maikanti Baru to sustain the existing cordial relations between the NNPC and the leadership of the downstream industry unions and other stakeholders. He said the DPR, which is the regulatory arm of the industry had been alerted to sanction fuel station owners who engage in hoarding or charge consumers in excess of the approved pump price of petrol. Baru had announced the review of the bridging allowance on Monday at a mediation meeting between Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) and the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), leading to suspension of the strike embarked upon by members of National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers.

ITS TIME INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITIES FULLY INTERVENE ON THE ONGOING TRIAL OF NNAMDI KANU
ITS TIME INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITIES FULLY INTERVENE ON THE ONGOING TRIAL OF NNAMDI KANU By Sunday Okafor For Family Writers Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra who was arrested on the 14th, October 2015 has been illegally detained in Kuje Prison Abuja unjustly and this by no way shows a good example of injustice to the oppressed. It's Further states that the Nigeria Judiciary is totally outcasted from upholding the law. It has been on record that Nigeria is classified as a murderous and lawless entity where evil is the order of the day both in the three arms of the Nigerian government (Judiciary, Executive, and Legislative). It is quite disheartening to see a freedom fighter like Nnamdi Kanu seeking for the total emancipation of his people go through this heartbreaking situationallawlessness of the Nigeria government. Biafrans have been marginalized and subjected to slavery from time immemorial in Nigeria. The murderous policies laid down by her government can attest to the ongoing conspiracy against Biafrans. All the evidence are there for all to glance upon. The Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) are peaceful and non-violent individuals, fighting for freedom under the International law with Nnamdi Kanu as their leader. Having observed the proceeding emanating from the case at the Federal High Court Abuja, one is left with no choice than to ask: why is Binta Nyako bent on introducing Sharia law in Nnamdi Kanu's case? Does it mean Buhari has islamized Nigeria at last? Should Biafrans keep calm and allow Justice Nyako have her way to try Nnamdi Kanu under the Sharia law? By implementing secret trial under the Sharia law as ruled by Nyako depicts the Islamic agenda into the Judicial system piloted by the tyrant Buhari. If Biafrans keep calm and allow the so-called Northern Cabals to carry out this evil agenda eventually all Biafrans will be Islamized, no two ways about that. Sharia law is an Islamic law guiding the Muslims so Biafrans have no business with that because we are predominantly Christians. I see this secret agenda as an act set up by Muhammadu Buhari using the presiding Judge handling the case to truncate the freedom of our leader and Biafrans at large. In addition, it is a means of frustrating the Christians generally from practicing their faith. IN ARTICLE 6 OF UN CHARTER STATES Quotes: Every Indigenous People or Individual has the right to nationality. Biafrans have the collective right to freedom as a people and not to be subjected to any form of maltreatment. Biafrans, are hereby calling on the International Community, UN and other world leaders to condemn this evil act by the Nigerian government on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB). #WeSayNoToShariaLaw #BiafransSayNoToSecretTrial. Business activities, human and vehicular movements were disrupted, yesterday, in Nnewi, Anambra State when over 3,000 members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) staged a protest against an alleged attempt to try their leader, Nnamdi Kanu in secret and under the Sharia law. The protest took them round the industrial city beginning from Nnobi Road through Nkwo Triangle, Nnewi Roundabout and all sections of Nkwo Nnewi market chanting war songs in support of Biafra. At Nwanyi Imo Bus Stop where soldiers in a patrol van drove close to them, they never bothered as they marched ahead distributing their fliers to every one including the soldiers who, of course, did not accept them. Leader of the protesters who gave his name as Prince Ezeugo told journalists that they were trying to create awareness, to bring Biafra to the consciousness of Ndigbo. He described it as a kind of evangelism and said that nobody should attack them for evangelising, assuring that Biafra would soon be achieved. “The main reason for our demonstration is to warn before hand against any attempt to try our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu under the Sharia Law or try him secretly. We will never accept that. So, if anybody is planning to do that, that plan must be dropped because it won’t work.” He said the IPOB was not excited by the recent pronouncement of the South East Governors to meet with President Buhari over Kanu’s release and the issue of Biafra. He insisted that whether they talked to President Buhari or not the IPOB would continue to press forward without until Biafra was achieved. He said that Ohaneze Ndigbo should come out from their shell to identify with the struggle fully as well as all Igbo men and women.

the House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to release N15 billion budgetary allocation for the funding of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP). The House’s call was sequel to the adoption of a motion seeking immediate intervention in the non-release of funds for the presidential amnesty programme. Minority Leader, Leo Ogor, sponsored the motion. The House also mandated its Committee on Niger Delta Affairs to investigate circumstances leading to funding constraints affecting the programme and report back within two weeks for further legislative action. In his lead debate, Ogor, who is also chairman of the South-South Caucus, expressed worry over the challenges facing PAP. He said 30,000 beneficiaries of the programme, paid monthly allowance of N65,000 are being owed five months while those under education programmes within the country are affected by the debt owed universities, to the tune of Nl, 873, 044, 700, in addition to backlog of unpaid in-training allowances amounting to N830,500. This was as 750 students benefitting from educational programme overseas are also affected by non-payment of in-training allowance between 2016 and 2017 totalling $4,200,000 (equivalent of N1,332,000,000) and unpaid tuition fee for 350 students amounting to $17,500,000 (equivalent of N5,512,500). He added that 70 percent of the 637 students in various institutions in 27 countries, who are expected to graduate at the end of the 2016/2017 academic year, may not be able to do so because of non-payment of their tuition. Also, more than 80 percent of the students have reportedly been excluded from lectures because of unpaid tuition fees. The lawmaker, however, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for directing his deputy, Yemi Osibajo, to visit the Niger Delta and to consult with critical stakeholders. He said this pointed to government’s sincerity in ensuring all success of programmes targeted at ensuring peace in the region. “The Federal Ministry of Finance has not released to PAP, the sum of N15 billion budgeted for in the 2016 Appropriation Act and the situation is becoming serious and is capable of truncating the lofty programme as tension and threats are already palpable in the Niger Delta and among beneficiaries of the programme, both those who are onshore and offshore, with a propensity that is capable of bringing Nigeria into disrepute nationally and internationally, unless the matter is addressed,” he said. Speaking in support of the motion, Deputy Whip, Pally Iriase and Johnson Agbonayinma pleaded that the funds be released quickly as effective implementation of PAP will safeguard peace in the Niger Delta region, “which is critical to the stability of the country’s economy.”

BIAFRA: IPOB COMMEND IGBO LEADERS WHO DECLARED "NO ELECTION IN BIAFRA LAND UNLESS NNAMDI KANU IS RELEASED AND REFERENDUM CONDUCTED"
By Mazi Onyebuchi Eze For Family Writers It has come to the notice of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the unshakable and supreme command of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu (De Great), a declaration coming from the amalgamated Igbo leaders in Biafraland in a meeting held in Enugu recently. In the said declaration, the Igbo-Biafran leaders which had representatives from different fields of endeavour issued a declaration that there should be no more Nigeria government organized election in all over Biafraland unless Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and all Biafran political detainees are unconditionally released and #BiafraExit referendum conducted to decide the political future of Biafrans and Biafra territory. IPOB is using this opportunity to commend these Igbo Biafran leaders for throwing away cowardice in the face of Nigeria government's tyranny, persecution and total declaration of war against Biafran youths who have vehemently stood that Biafra must be restored, by the Igbo leaders coming back to their senses after months of hiding in their shells due to fear of victimization. But IPOB want to let them know that it is better to be victimized and secure the future of the posterity than to mortgage the destiny of our descendants on the altar of cowardice. Now, that these Igbo Leaders of thought at home and in diaspora have understood what their children have been crying for all these years, IPOB want to let the Igbo leaders to know that Nigeria government humiliated Igbo leaders with mindless impunity by refusing to release Nnamdi Kanu who is unlawfully detained for nearly two years now even you people demanded for his release in order to mediate in the issue at hand. It is on this total disrespect, molestation and humiliation of Igbo political, religious, traditional and opinion leaders before the world by Nigeria government under Gen Muhammadu Buhari who deviantly vowed to continue to detain Nnamdi Kanu unlawfully even against court orders, regardless of the request of these Igbo political, traditional, religious and opinion leaders who wished to mediate a dialogue in the burning issue of Biafra, that IPOB make bold to tell Igbo leaders that we, their children are tired of staying in a nation where our fathers are not regarded and respected as stakeholders in its project. Let Igbo leaders not be ignorant of the fact that the continues unlawful detention of Nnamdi Kanu is a direct mockery, humiliation, slap, reproach and caricature on Igbo leaders meted on them by same Nigeria government which they were standing with few months ago, although many gullible political morons called state governors, senators and ministers thought that attack on Nnamdi Kanu is a mere attack on the youths but it is rather an attack on every Biafran especially Igbo leaders under reference. Had it been that Nigeria government ever reserved any atom of respect and dignity to Igbo leaders under reference above as stakeholders in the project Nigeria, Nnamdi Kanu and his IPOB followers will not be killed, molested, butchered, maimed, tortured in the manner which it is being done today by Nigeria government but they do not regard Igbo leaders. IPOB is by this publication throwing our total and unshakable support to all Igbo leaders both at home and in diaspora in their stand and declaration that any attack, molestation, humiliation, unlawful detention against Nnamdi Kanu is an attack, molestation and detention on them. If Igbo Biafrans are not seen by Nigeria government authorities as a mere conquered people, why will same government which sets free many convicted Boko Haram terrorists from prison, giving amnesty packages to the Boko Haram fighters which is still killing govt soldiers, and shielding Fulani terrorists, be detaining Nnamdi Kanu (an Igbo Biafran) for no reason other than his demand for the restoration of Biafra? IPOB is making the Igbo leaders to know that Nigeria government has declared a systematic war against Biafrans in general and Igbo nation in particular. Let nobody feign ignorance to this absolute truth because it is very glaring before our eyes. As for the Biafran youths, we have set the ball rolling that we do not want to hear about anything called election in Biafraland or any part thereof. If they forcefully conduct it with imported barrels of gun, Biafrans are going to boycott the election because what our people want is Biafra restoration and not the polluted Nigeria election which is full of broad daylight brigandage. #FreeNnamdiKanu! #FreeBiafra!! #BiafraExit!!!

director General Small And Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Dr. Umaru Dikko Radda, has said that the agency employed more the 50 million people. He also disclosed that if the SME in Nigeria collapsed the country would be in trouble as no nation grew without the firm establishment of the small and medium enterprises. He told Daily Sun in Abuja yesterday that SMEDAN was the engine room for growth, lamenting that there were lack of synergy between one government organization and the other as some of the government agencies saw themselves as competitors. “We were appointed to bring positive changes to Nigerians. It is not healthy enough to see agencies doing the same job with the other, instead of that some agencies could be merged to save costs and send staff to where they should be able to do better”, he said. Radda also advised agencies to keep to the laws establishing them to avoid encroaching to the job of another agency. He described the SMEDAN as more important than the petroleum industry if well developed to the standard that obtained in other climes. He said most of the challenges facing the organization were not fully addressed, as majority of the SMEs were domicile in the rural area where also most of the beneficiaries were not informed or educated.

Founder , Flying Doctors, Nigeria, Dr. Ola Brown has advocated the need for Nigeria to develop its air ambulance infrastructure to ensure that patients can assess healthcare, saying this may help the government to save billions of dollars by concentrating expert resources and reducing healthcare spending. Brown who lamented the high cost of healthcare in the country, said the Federal government did not have enough money to place centers of medical excellence in every single state. She said, if there could not be a center of medical excellence in every state, then Nigeria needed to develop its air ambulance infrastructure led by companies such as the Flying Doctors Nigeria Air Ambulance service, so patients could access healthcare. The Flying Doctors Nigeria has developed a cost-effective, commercial air ambulance solution that allows patients to be transported by air for less than the price of a ground ambulance. This cost pales in comparison to the cost of developing multiple hospitals which would be financially impossible to staff/equip and run on their current budget. Brown, in a statement yesterday said the United Kingdom National Health Service (NHS) budget stands more than $100 billion per year, adding that it was stressed covering 65 million citizens, while Nigeria’s entire budget, by contrast, is about $12 billion per year, over 60 per cent of which goes to recurrent government expenses such as salaries, travel, training, and perks. She lamented that there is less than $1 billion for health care in a country with a population of 170 million people. Her words: “Putting a state of the art hospital in every state of Nigeria would cost about $30bn, more than double our entire budget. Even if we had the money, we lack the resources in terms of doctors, nurses, support staff, maintenance engineers to ensure that these hospitals could function.” She stated that the only viable alternative is to centralize the country’s healthcare system, with just one or two state of the art centers that are home to Nigeria’s finest and most experienced medical practitioners. These centers, she, reiterated would receive the bulk of healthcare investment, allowing doctors to specialise effectively.

PETROLEUM Tanker Drivers, PTD, branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, yesterday, directed members to begin nationwide indefinite strike and shut all loading depots and fuel terminals until further notice. Tankers The workers are protesting non-renewal of their Collective Bargaining Agreement, CBA, that expired three years ago, deplorable conditions of nation’s high ways, alleged harassment by security, especially Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and plans by Capital Oil Plc to declare 2000 members redundant due to its unresolved issue with Petroleum Products Marketing Company, PPMC. National Chairman of PTD, Mr. Salimon Oladiti, told Vanguard, yesterday, that there was no going back on the strike as it was decided by the organs of the union. According to him, the strike will be total as loading depots and fuel terminals nationwide will be shut down. He said: “There is no going back. The strike is definitely going ahead as planned and it will be total because all loading depots and fuel terminals will be shut down. We have fully mobilized and sensitized all members.” Vanguard, however, gathered that there had been frantic efforts by government agencies and officials in the last 24 hours to abort the strike because of its socio-economic implications on the nation and the citizens. It was gathered that government officials were making efforts to summon the leaders of the union for an emergency meeting today to find solutions to the crisis.

100 gizmos coming as firm eyes Singapore, Philippines, India and China
SINGAPORE -- Dyson, known for its bagless vacuum cleaners and bladeless fans, wants to develop, make, and sell a lot more products in Asia.

It didn't take long for the home appliance maker, founded in 1993, to become a household name. Its cord-free models are the top-selling vacuum cleaners in many developed markets and have grabbed the hearts of the middle classes in emerging economies.

The brand is now entering an expansion phase, and founder James Dyson wants to tap the potential of growing Asia.

The Malmesbury, England-based company on Monday revealed an impressive 2016 performance: a 45% jump in sales to 2.5 billion pounds ($3.11 billion) and a 41% increase in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization, or Ebitda, to 631 million pounds. "2016 was one of our best years yet," Chief Executive Max Conze said in a news release.

President Donald Trump walked out of an executive order signing ceremony Friday -- without actually signing the orders.
During the signing ceremony, White House pool reporters asked Trump questions about his former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who has offered to testify on Russian involvement in the US election in return for immunity from prosecution.

The President ignored the questions and moved to another room, only to be followed by Vice President Mike Pence, who picked up the folders containing the two executive orders.
Trump later signed the pair of orders aimed at identifying and targeting foreign trade abuses, according to the White House, but behind closed doors.
One order commissions a 90-day study of US trade deficits with some of its largest trading partners to identify potential trade abuses and cheating. The second directive orders stricter and more effective enforcement of US anti-dumping laws to prevent foreign manufacturers from undercutting US companies by selling goods at an unfair price.
