Ed Woodward has put Jose Mourinho in his place
There are troubled times at Old Trafford already this season with seemingly everybody upset with everyone. United chief Woodward has been tasked by the powers above him to keep the manager in check and, with his latest move, that is exactly what he has done. Despite risking the wrath of the Portuguese coach, who has yet to complete a third season at a club, he has gone against his wishes completely. His agent revealed that he wanted to go elsewhere to improve his first-team chances after missing out on France's World Cup squad which went on to win the tournament. The Brazilian is a tried and tested option for the ex-Blues manager - having won the Premier League with him in 2014/15. Reports emerged that Mourinho went behind his boss' back and offered Martial to Chelsea in a swap deal for Willian, which did not materialise.
Furthermore, Martial is expected to sign the new deal - because he believes he will be there long after Mourinho leaves. The France star is determined to make his United dream come true, even if it means sticking it out under the the former Real Madrid boss.
Mourinho has dropped the former Monaco forward from his squad on numerous times but Martial has been emboldened by the club's reluctance to sell him.
