Make no mistake, Jurgen Klopp wanted to win Saturday evening’s FA Cup clash against West Brom at Anfield. The Liverpool boss named a strong starting line-up including the club’s revered attacking trio, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. The Reds took the lead through Firmino in the fifth minute courtesy of a delightful chipped finish - and then the proceeded to capitulate. Two goals in four minutes from Jay Rodriguez turned the game on its head. Soon after it was 3-1, only for referee Craig Pawson to disallow the West Brom goal after consulting the video assistant referee [VAR]. Firmino then missed a penalty before a Joel Matip own goal on the stroke of half-time earned the Baggies a two-goal cushion. Mohamed Salah set up an entertaining finale when he pulled a goal back for the hosts with just over 10 minutes remaining but Klopp’s men failed to find the all-important equaliser and subsequently crashed out of the FA Cup in the fourth round.

LIVERPOOL FANS HAVE LOST PATIENCE WITH THREE PLAYERS

Liverpool fans were naturally devastated by the result. The FA Cup was their best chance of winning silverware this season. And many of the club’s infuriated supporters took to social media after the final whistle. Although most of the players were slammed, there are three stars in particular who fans appear to have finally lost patience with. Goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is one of them. The Belgian shot-stopper recently lost his place in Liverpool’s first-choice XI to Loris Karius but failed to impress against Alan Pardew’s side. Meanwhile, defence duo Alberto Moreno and Matip were also blasted for their underwhelming displays.

KLOPP: WE DEFENDED BADLY AND WEST BROM DESERVED TO WIN

Unsurprisingly, Klopp was critical of his team’s abject defending after the match. However, the 50-year-old admitted West Brom deserved to advance to the fifth round. The German coach was quoted by Sky Sports as saying: "In the decisive parts of the game around the goals it was poor. Bad defending, that's how it is. Bad defending most of the time means the wrong decision. "It's a difficult game, experienced opponent. They deserved it to be honest, I don't like to say that, but it's the truth, they deserve it, so compliments to their side. "I think it makes sense to sleep another night on it [before talking to the players] to really analyse the game. We wanted to show that we really want to stay in this competition. Tomorrow we have to [analyse]. "It's not the first game I've lost, and not the first game I've wanted to win really desperately and lost. It's just a bad feeling, but it's deserved, for me, for the boys, it's deserved."
