The Chile international looked to Manchester City-bound following the summer transfer window when an agreement was seemingly in place between the two parties. But this month saw United jump at the chance to offer a better deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan move in a straight player-swap deal with Arsenal. While United didn’t have to pay a transfer fee to sign Sanchez, they did spend a significant amount of money on agent fees and a signing on bonus. On top of that though is the £500,000-a-week wages the forward is earning at Old Trafford, and that was the reason City pulled out of the running to sign him. However, Mourinho believes United still pulled off a huge coup. “He was cheap, wasn't he?' said Mourinho. “A free transfer! He was free. For that price, he is fantastic. I think everyone thinks the same in this country. I think everyone has to agree that he is a fantastic player. “He has great quality and scores goals, makes assists, has a good attitude when the team loses the ball, he's good at set pieces. “I think really he is one of the best attacking players in the world.”
