Eden Hazard vs Cristiano Ronaldo – Should Real Madrid Spend £120million For The Chelsea Star?

Real Madrid are reportedly considering a £120million move for Chelsea’s Belgian superstar Eden Hazard. Despite scripting history last season with their sensational form under Zinedine Zidane, Los Blancos have struggled majorly in the La Liga as well as in the UEFA Champions League this season. It is never easy to defend the trophy of one league – let alone two – and the reigning European champions have been far from their best due to an obvious lack of pace up front. They have failed to forge attacking intent and most of their displays have looked rather lacklustre when compared to how they played last season. Hence, if they are to finish on a strong note, they need reinforcements and Hazard is understood to be a prime target. Cristiano Ronaldo has been in and out of fitness this time and Karim Benzema’s struggles in front of goal continue whereas Gareth Bale’s slew of injuries have robbed the side of their power up front, which in turn has cost them quite a lot of points. But, is Hazard the right option to address the problems at the Santiago Bernabeu? Let’s compare his stats to those of Ronaldo’s and find out.

Cristiano Ronaldo vs Eden Hazard

In 18 appearances for Real Madrid across all competitions this season, Ronaldo has scored 13 goals and 3 assists. He has picked up 2 yellow cards so far and averages a whopping 6.8 shots per game. He has a pass success-rate of 80% and wins about 1.4 aerial duels per game. He has also won 3 Man Of The Match awards so far. Hazard, on the other hand, has appeared 23 times for Chelsea across all competitions, with 8 goals and 4 assists to show for his efforts. Having received one yellow card so far, the player averages 2.2 shots per game and has a pass success-rate of 82.6%. He is weaker in the air and wins only about 0.3 aerial duels on an average. However, he has picked up 7 Man of The Match awards over the course of the season so far.

Verdict

Ronaldo and Hazard play in the same positions more or less and if the Belgian were to join Real Madrid, Zidane would have an option of resting Ronaldo on certain occasions to keep him in the best of form. On that front, Real could benefit by signing Hazard but Ronaldo’s numbers look far more superior when compared to his. The Portuguese superstar played far less games than Hazard and yet his numbers are better and that only goes to show his unadulterated skills in front of the goal. That said, it will be interesting to see how things turn out. Zidane could sign Hazard to act as a deputy but it remains to be seen if the Chelsea player would be up for it.
