Antonio Conte yesterday gave an interesting press conference ahead of tonight’s EFL Cup game against Bournemouth, with his full quotes recorded online at football.london. The Chelsea coach was questioned about his team selection and over what youngsters might get a chance. In a slightly defensive manner, he noted that Christensen was now a first team player, proving that he put ability over big names. When specifically questioned about Dujon Sterling and Callum Hudson-Odoi, he fiercely hinted that they would be given a chance sooner rather than later, calling Sterling a “good player” and mentioning that Hudson-Odoi had won the U17 World Cup with England in the summer. His answer to whether they would get a chance to play was “why not?”, and it certainly sounds like he’s keen to try out more of the club’s blossoming youth talent in senior matches. Whether either of the two will start is less certain, but we should expect to see them get a few minutes this season at some stage.
