Luiz missed Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Swansea last night with a knee problem. The Brazilian has fallen out of favour under Conte after losing his starting spot to Andreas Christensen. The 30-year-old had knee issues last season after a clash with Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero at the Etihad. And Conte is unsure when Luiz will return. When asked about the extent of the defender’s injury, Conte said: “Now it is very difficult.
“He had liquid in his knee and we have to assess his recovery on the time. “I hope to not lose him for a lot of time and I need to have all my players.”
Meanwhile, Conte was sent to the stands during the victory over the Swans after voicing his frustration over the visitors supposedly slowing down the game. The Italian tactician apologised after the game for the incident, and he said: "In the first half Swansea was wasting time. “I said this a few times to the fourth official, I didn’t see something had changed in the first half. “I was frustrated for this situation and tried to tell again. “The referee took this decision but I apologise. I made a mistake." Chelsea’s victory sees them occupy third spot in the table, nine points behind league leaders Manchester City. The Blues host Newcastle next on Saturday (12.30pm).
