31 cases of the monkeypox virus have been recorded in seven states. The states include Bayelsa, Rivers, Ekiti, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Ogun and the Cross River States. This was made known National Centre for Disease Control, Abuja.
Monkeypox is a rare disease that occurs primarily in remote parts of Central and West Africa, near tropical rainforests. The monkeypox virus can cause a fatal illness in humans and, although it is similar to human smallpox which has been eradicated,

it is much milder. Monkeypox can spread to humans from an infected animal through an animal bite or direct contact with the animal?s lesions or body fluids. The disease also can bespread from person to person, although it is much less infectious than smallpox.
