He's not kicked a ball in anger for Everton since May. And if Chelsea get their way then Ross Barkley will be on his way out of Goodison Park next month.
The Blues midfielder's future is back on the agenda with the January transfer window hurtling frighteningly into shot. Barkley, of course, is in the final six months of his Everton contract, and reports on Tuesday suggest that Chelsea are preparing a January bid to take him to Stamford Bridge. The Daily Mail suggest that the Londoners are readying a fresh offer for the 24-year-old, who is still at least a fortnight away from fitness following a serious hamstring injury. Barkley rejected the chance to move to Chelsea during the final days of the summer window, with the Mail claiming he preferred the idea of a switch to Tottenham.
