Martin Keown has praised Eden Hazard for his strong start to the new season but says the Chelsea FC playmaker still has some work to do to develop into one of Europe’s best players. The Belgian playmaker has been in solid form for the Blues so far this season and he hit a hat-trick in the Blues’ dominant 4-1 win over Cardiff City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Hazard has made a strong start to life under new Chelsea FC boss Maurizio Sarri this season and he has already scored five goals and made two assists in the top flight this term. Arsenal legend Keown has praised Hazard for his good form, but he has warned the 27-year-old that he still has plenty of room for improvement as he looks to step his game up at Stamford Bridge. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Keown said: “He has started the season superbly but if Eden Hazard wants to be considered the best in Europe, he must join the queue.
“He is behind Luka Modric, who won the European Cup, played in the World Cup final and was named the best player in Russia. “Kylian Mbappe became the first teenager since Pele to score in a World Cup final. Gareth Bale hit a wonderstrike in the Champions League final. “We have not even mentioned Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi. Hazard can be the top player in world football but he must be more consistent. “He is clearly having fun working for Maurizio Sarri and embracing his new-found freedom in this Chelsea team. Keep this up and Hazard is in for a big year.”
