Former Chelsea captain and also former England international John Terry confirmed that he will not join Spartak Moscow and revealed he took this decision after discussing things with his family.

Over the past few days, we’ve covered several reports regarding the Russian club’s interest in signing the 37-year-old, who is a free agent following his exit from Aston Villa at end of the last season. Last weekend, Sky Italia reported the centre-back completed his medical in Rome’s Villa Stuar. On September 11th, Russia’s Sport Express reported that the Chelsea legend was demanding more money to complete the transfer.
On Wednesday, we covered another report from the Russian outlet, who claimed that Spartak president Nail Izmailov travelled to London to join the negotiations and help his side secure the former England international’s services. Unfortunately, Terry decided against making a switch to Moscow and that has not gone down well with some Spartak supporters, who have expressed their frustration on various social media platforms. Sport Express has gathered a few of the reactions and the comments made towards Terry have been negative. “You’re a coward. And not a man. I’m ready to tell you this in person. You’re the latest henpecked man. The club counted on you. I liked you at Chelsea. But after the deed that you did, you died for me. Damn you,” one user andrei.su said. Another user gennadymakaroff said, “Go retire, stop playing Johnny, you will not earn all the money.”
One more Spartak fan went on to talk about British players’ strong spirit, while criticisng Terry’s decision: “A football player who sails on a political course, who does not know the country in which he was invited, is simply weak at the core. I always thought that most British players are strong in spirit.” Another, clearly unimpressed, added “The most cowardly person”.
