On Friday morning it seemed like it was done deal.
After several weeks of speculation, reports circulated yesterday that Liverpool had finalised a deal with Lyon for Nabil Fekir. According to reports out of France, Nabil Fekir will earn 700k-euros-per-month at Liverpool next season. That’s after the Reds managed to find an agreement worth in excess of 60m euros with Lyon, according to Le Parisien. Yet, on Saturday, the Times have been left wondering whether the Fekir deal will actually ever happen. Did Nabil Fekir’s fail his Liverpool medical? Why have Liverpool not yet confirmed the Fekir deal? Is it because something has happened behind the scenes? Those fears have been elevated by the Times on Saturday, as readers are told the following: Liverpool’s £53 million move for Nabil Fekir was in doubt last night amid concerns over the Lyons playmaker’s fitness. The club had been expecting to announce the transfer yesterday and leaked pictures revealed that the he had recorded an interview with the club’s media channels. The pictures, showing Fekir in a Liverpool strip, appeared to contradict a statement by the French club on their website which suggested that no deal had been done. However, no announcement followed and fears grew last night that medical tests on Fekir had revealed a problem. Liverpool refused to comment on the delay or that he had failed a medical.
Fekir, a versatile 24-year-old forward/winger who can play anywhere across the frontline or in an attacking midfield role, has been on the books of Lyon since joining the club from Saint-Priest in 2011. Last season the Lyon player netted 23 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions earning himself a place in Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad this summer.
