NATIONAL chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, on Saturday, in Osogbo, Osun State capital, declared that no amount of intimidation and propaganda could hinder the victory of the party in the 2019 general election. He contended that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, had destroyed the democratic values and governance in the country. Secondus, who spoke while addressing a large number of party members, stalwarts and other major stakeholders during the South-West mega rally, hosted by the Osun State chapter of the party, asserted that “we would rescue this nation from the APC and no amount of intimidation can stop our party from winning 2019 general election.” According to him, “APC has destroyed democracy. Are you going to continue to allow them? We will win in 2019. Go and tell Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun to go and start packing his belongings because we are going to win the September 22 governorship election in this state.” In his remark, the immediate past national chairman of the PDP, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, charged party members to intensify a door-to-door campaign, with a view to shoring up the support base of the party ahead the September gubernatorial election in the state, stressing that “Osun must come back to the PDP. You must unite yourselves by going to house-to-house. We are here to give you moral support.” He stated that “it is very essential for you to move round the wards, local governments in your state to mobilise and sensitise the people on the need to join hands with our party to save this nation because it belongs to all of us.” A former governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, who also addressed the gathering, tasked the PDP members not to be complacent but re-strategise and work harder so that the party would win governorship poll, just as he assured the people of his support to boost the chance of the party. However, a former chieftain of the APC in Osun, Alhaji Fatai Oyedele Diekola and hundreds of his loyalists, who earlier dumped ADC ruling party for the PDP, were received into the opposition party during the rally. Other dignitaries at the rally include former vice-president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, ex- governor of Niger State, Dr Aliyu Babangida; Ekiti State governor, Mr Peter Ayodele Fayose; former Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido; former national chairman of the PDP, Senator Makarfi; exchairman, Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Senator Olu Alabi; Senator Ademola Adeleke, Chief Francis Adenigba Fadadunsi; and Honourable Niyi Owolade. Others included a member of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Shuaib Oyedokun; the national publicity secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbodiyan; deputy national publicity secretary, Diran Odeyemi; Osun State PDP chairman, Honourable Soji Adagunodo; former chairman of the PDP in Osun State, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, Chief Nathaniel O. Oke (SAN), and many others. Meanwhile, Ekiti State Governor, Chief Ayodele Fayose, has said the APC was no match for his party, the PDP in the coming Ekiti State governorship poll and the 2019 general election. This was just as he described the PDP as a sleeping lion that had been aroused and is ready to devour anything. He stated this in Osogbo, during the South-West zonal rally. 2019: PDP US chapter mandates Secondus to flush-out Buhari’s govt In a statement by his Chief press secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, he quoted the governor as saying that whoever emerges the APC candidate for the Ekiti election would be defeated by the PDP’s candidate. “Nigerians have seen the deceit called the APC and their failed government. They can see the difference. The PDP is a lion that has been woken from sleep. We are taking over at the federal level next year and by the grace of God, we are winning the Ekiti governorship election. We have done well in the running of the state and our continuity agenda stands firm. “ When we defeated the APC in all the 16 local government areas of the state in 2014, they went to town with a lot of lies. Now their party is in control at the federal level, we are waiting for the excuse they will give, as they will suffer another humiliating defeat again,” he said. Meanwhile, Osun APC, in its reaction to the rally, said the “overhyped PDP mega rally was a little better than a town hall meeting. PDP has promised 15,000 people from Osogbo alone will decamp, but only two leaders (a business man and a weak politician)and a few korope loads of supporters showed up. “The Ibadan crowd led by decamping Rashidi Ladoja stole the show. Then one Secondus came all the way from Abuja to Osogbo to declare that the PDP was on a rescue mission. It was all pathetic. Those who witnessed 2014 PDP rally at the same venue will be sorry for the party, or what was left of the PDP at today’s rally,” the ruling party said.
