Manchester City will travel to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal on Thursday looking to follow up on their Carabao Cup triumph with a league victory over their North London rivals. Pep Guardiola’s side are in pole position to secure the Premier League title this season and a victory over the Gunners would be another step towards fulfiling their ambition of a league and cup double this term. The Citizens are in sensational form in the league and have just lost once in 27 league matches so far. They are expected to continue their recent good run by earning the three points in North London on Thursday night. The recent history of the fixture makes a grim reading for the home team as the Manchester outfit has won three of their last five encounters with the Gunners in all competitions. Guardiola is expected to opt for a 4-3-3 formation and might revert back to his strongest eleven for this clash. Raheem Sterling could return to the City side if he can recover in time for this contest while Ederson will also be eyeing a comeback after being rested in their Carabao Cup final victory over Arsenal on Sunday.

Defence

Ederson could return in goal for Manchester City and will be protected by a back four consisting of new signing Aymeric Laporte and Nicolas Otamendi in central defence while Kyle Walker operates as the right-back and Danilo starts on the left side of the backline. Pep Guardiola’s defenders kept a clean sheet in their last outing against Arsenal on Sunday in their 3-0 Carabao Cup final victory. The Spanish manager will be hoping that his back four can keep another clean sheet versus the Gunners on Thursday night.

Midfield

The trio of Kevin De Bruyne, Fernandinho, and David Silva could be deployed at the centre of the park. İlkay Gündoğan and Yaya Toure may have to settle for a place on the bench at the Emirates Stadium.

Attack

The dangerous front three of Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero, and Leroy Sane is expected to start up top for the Citizens. Sterling is a major doubt for the clash and will be in for a late fitness test with Bernardo Silva on standby and could be called upon if required. The terrific front trio of City has loads of goals and assists in between them this season. Hence it is expected that one of them will make the difference on the day at the Emirates Stadium.
