Manchester United are willing to splash out a mammoth sum to sign Alexis Sanchez from the Gunners this month. The versatile star could be lured for free in the summer transfer window and if reports in the media are anything to go by then United would be paying over £75million (price + wages + signing on fee) to sign the Chilean. According to Daily Star, the Old Trafford club will lure the South American playmaker for a fee worth £40million. Moreover, the British source have claimed that United are ready to agree a deal worth over £300,000-a-week and would also pay him a huge signing on fee worth £35million. The question is, why is Mourinho willing to spend that much to lure someone, who will be 30 this year and could be lured for no transfer fee in the summer? United have fallen behind Manchester City, more importantly, Mourinho has fallen behind Guardiola and he must make a statement in the winter window to turn things around. Signing Alexis, who has been linked with Man City as well, will surely do that. Other than that, as per UEFA Article 44 (Via Express), the former Chelsea boss can even use Alexis in the Champions League if he can secure his signing and register him before February 1st midnight. Such a world class player would largely improve United’s chances of winning the competition.
