Manchester United are leading Liverpool and Chelsea in the race to sign £35m Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri at the end of the season, according to the Mirror.

Seri has emerged as one of the best all-round midfielders in French football since joining Nice from Pacos de Ferreira in 2015 and he provided 7 goals and 9 assists to help the club finish third in Ligue 1 last season. The 26-year-old was linked with a number of clubs during the summer transfer window but saw a proposed switch to Barcelona fall through before Paris Saint-Germain also ended their pursuit due to Financial Fair Play after signing Neymar. The midfielder has continued to impress in France this season but his future at Nice is in serious doubt as Seri has just 18 months left to run on his contract and has so far refused to sign an extension. The Mirror claim that sources close to the player say he wants to move to the Premier League with Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea all battling it out for his signature this summer. The Ivory Coast international has a very affordable £35m release clause written in to his contract and the English trio easily have the financial firepower to meet that valuation. Liverpool are in the market for another midfielder with Emre Can’s future in serious doubt while Chelsea are keen to further strengthen their squad amid doubts over Tiemoue Bakayoko.
