Alexis Sanchez has admitted that he has always been interested in a move to Manchester United since Sir Alex Ferguson talked up the Chile international in 2010. The South American completed a move to the Red Devils in a swap deal with Arsenal that saw Armenia playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan finalise a switch to the Emirates Stadium. Sanchez put pen to paper on a long-term contract with Manchester United to become the best paid player in the history of the 20-time English champions. The 29-year-old striker was initially linked with a move to Premier League leaders Manchester City before Manchester United swooped in for the Barcelona forward. Ferguson spoke in glowing terms about Sanchez back in 2010 when the Chilean forward was an emerging prospect at Udinese. Asked whether he had his heart set on representing Manchester United after a conversation with Ferguson, Sanchez said: “Absolutely right! I’ve always been motivated by this club, by their red colours, which have always stood out for me and I’m genuinely saying this from the heart when I tell you that this is like a dream come true for me, playing for Manchester United. “It makes me feel really happy and I’m so pleased to be here at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ as everyone calls it!” Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table but 12 points behind current leaders Manchester City. The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Ferguson was still in charge at Old Trafford. Manchester United will take on Spanish side Sevilla in the Champions League round of 16 next month.
