ALEXIS SANCHEZ is expected to undergo his medical with Manchester United this evening, it has been claimed by a Spanish journalist.
Alexis Sanchez is on the brink of a move to Manchester United and is tipped to undergo a medical this evening. That’s according to Spanish reporter Jose Alvarez who has claimed the Chile international is expected at Carrington in the next few hours. “The Chilean will travel to Manchester in the next few hours for the medical examination,” he wrote on Twitter. The deal is said to have been delayed by Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s move in the opposite direction. However, Alvarez has claimed the Armenia international’s switch to the Emirates will have no bearing over Sanchez’s move. And he has insisted United’s deal for the former Barcelona man will be agreed, even if Mkhitaryan’s move falls through. “If Mkhitaryan does not finally sign for Arsenal (all indications say yes but it is what is delaying the operation), Alexis transfer would be made equally for more money,” he added. The insistence on getting Sanchez’s move finalised tonight is to make sure he is available to play at the weekend.
Jose Mourinho is said to want the winger available for Saturday’s trip to Burnley (3pm). And the club have until noon tomorrow to register him as a player if he is to make his debut at Turf Moor. If the deal goes through it will be a relief for United fans but one person who is not happy to see Sanchez leaving is Gunners legend Martin Keown. The former centre-half has laid into the Chilean for choosing United and branded him the ‘biggest mercenary in football’. “Sanchez has got to be the biggest mercenary in football,” he said. “Manchester City have wanted to sign Sanchez since the summer and, if no deal is done in January, they will be waiting for him at the end of the season. “City would be the natural place for Sanchez to go to develop his football. He has worked with Pep Guardiola before. “But for Sanchez, this is clearly not about going to the best team, working with Guardiola and taking his game to another level. “He has probably thought that he will not get a better offer if he waits until the summer, so he might as well take the best deal on offer now. It has been all about the money.”
