Thibaut Courtois to become highest paid goalkeeper in the world with latest chelsea contract offer

After months of back-and-forth waffling, Chelsea are apparently ready to do the smart and obvious thing and give in to Thibaut Courtois’ demands to become the highest paid goalkeeper in the world — or at least on par with David De Gea in terms of base salary (£200,000 per week), with potential bonuses pushing the Chelsea man to the top of the earnings list. As per Matt Law’s “EXCLUSIVE” in the Telegraph (that’s a strong combination of words, to be sure), Chelsea are “growing increasingly optimistic” that the 25-year-old will sign on the dotted line, extending his association with the club for a further five years.

While Courtois has been long-rumored to return to Madrid (probably Real rather than Atlético), and he’s never categorically denied those much to the frustrations of many, recent stories have all started pointing to him extending his stay with the Blues. He’s in fact one of Chelsea’s longest serving active players at the moment, signing way back in 2011 but spending the first three years out on loan at Atlético Madrid. Meanwhile, Real Madrid have apparently turned shifted primary targets to Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga, so it’s suddenly all looking quite good for Chelsea. The timeline put on these negotiations is “early in the New Year”, so perhaps as early as January. And once this top priority is done (Courtois down to the final 18 months of his contract at the moment, the team can focus Eden Hazard (and likely Andreas Christensen) do the same as well, before then starting the whole song and dance routine with conte as well.
