Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is said to be ‘baffled’ by Jose Mourinho‘s decision to drop him and believes the Portuguese boss’ tactics are to blame for his recent displays. The Armenian international has been dropped from seven of United’s last eight matchday squads and Jesse Lingard has taken his no.10 position in recent matches.
The 28-year-old started the season in bright fashion as United’s first choice attacking midfielder but he underwhelmed in big away matches against Liverpool and Chelsea. Mourinho decided to drop Mkhitaryan has made just one appearance – as a substitute in last month’s 1-0 win against Brighton – since his display at Stamford Bridge on November. United were poor in west London and Mkhitaryan – who was tasked with supplying lone forward Romelu Lukaku – spent much of the game staying tight to N’Golo Kante. However, Mkhitaryan believes he’s not solely to blame for his form and believes Mourinho’s tactics have hindered his performances, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Mkhitaryan’s poor form has led to Mourinho’s interest in Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil. The German played under Mourinho at Real Madrid and is believed to be open to moving to Old Trafford. Arsene Wenger, though, insists the Red Devils are yet to make an approach for the 29-year-old.
