MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho held an emergency meeting with Henrikh Mkhitaryan at the weekend, according to reports. Mkhitaryan’s Manchester United future in uncertain with the Armenia international currently out of favour at Old Trafford. The former Borussia Dortmund star started the season in fine fettle, racking up five assists in two games against West Ham and Swansea.
But, in the time since, Mkhitaryan has toiled with the Manchester United player last featuring against Chelsea at the beginning of last month. And TransferMarketWeb say the 28-year-old held a meeting with Mourinho over the weekend in a bid to thrash out his future. Dortmund and Serie A giants Inter Milan are both keen to rescue him from his Old Trafford nightmare. The Bundesliga side would appear to be favourites given how he blossomed with them earlier in his career. But Inter, despite refusing to sell Ivan Perisic to United over the summer, are also keen. TransferMarketWeb fail to shed any light on how the meeting went. But, should he continue to be left out, then a January move away is likely to be in the offing. Much may depend on the future of top United target Mesut Ozil. Express Sport understands Mourinho wants the Arsenal star to be his Mkhitaryan replacement. However, speaking today, Gunners gaffer Arsene Wenger confirmed the club were hopeful of convincing the Germany international to stay at the Emirates.
“Negotiations are always going on with everybody,” he said. “Is it two years to go? One year to go? Three months to go? “The door is always open and for the rest I cannot tell you much more. “I said that many times (we want to keep Ozil and Sanchez) and that’s all we can say. “I don’t want to talk about that (negotiations) because the best way to deal with these sort of things is to keep it discreet as possible.”
