David Luiz is heading for the exit at Chelsea next month with Juventus favourites to land the outcast defender. The Brazil international has fallen out of favour with Blues boss Antonio Conte , and is set to leave Stamford Bridge for a second time in four years when the transfer window opens.
Italian champions Juventus are the front-runners for £23million-rated Luiz, but Manchester United could also be interested as Jose Mourinho is looking for a defender with Eric Bailly out for months after ankle surgery. The centre-half, 30, was dropped by Conte after words were exchanged after the 3-0 Champions League defeat at Roma in October. Luiz was then axed for the 1-0 Stamford Bridge win over Manchester United. Since then he has played just once, in the 4-0 win at Qarabag in the Champions League almost a month ago.
A knee injury has kept him out of the last seven games but it is believed even when Luiz is fit, Conte will favour 21-year-old Danish defender Andreas Christensen. After dropping Luiz for the United game, the manager said: “He has to work really hard otherwise he is on the bench or in the stands.” And asked about Luiz’s future, Conte added: “I don’t know. Andreas Christensen is the present and the future for Chelsea.” Reports in Italy suggest Juve have sounded-out Luiz following Leonardo Bonucci's shock move to AC Milan last summer.
