Antonio Conte has admitted that he has been “amazed” by Andreas Christensen’s performances in the Chelsea first team this season.
The Danish defender has been holding down a regular starting spot in the first team at Stamford Bridge this season and has been keeping David Luiz out of the side. The 21-year-old returned to the west London club in the summer after having spent two seasons on loan to Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach. He has been earning rave reviews for his competent and mature performances at the back for the Blues and has already featured in 14 of Chelsea’s 18 Premier League games so far this season. And Conte has admitted that he has been delighted by the way the young defender has been performing and improving under his guidance so far this season.

Speaking at a news conference at Cobham on Tuesday, Conte said: “His performances have been amazing. “Every time I gave him the chance to play he put in an amazing performance. These performances convinced me he has to play with regularity. “He is maybe the best surprise from the start of the season, despite his young age.” Chelsea are now currently preparing for their Premier League trip to face Everton on Saturday lunchtime, as they look to try and climb the table. The Blues head into this weekend’s round of fixtures in third place in the Premier League table and 14 points behind runaway leaders Manchester City, after Conte’s side won the title in style last term.
