This summer saw unprecedented spending from the Premier League's top clubs as 13 clubs - including six of last season's top seven - break their record transfer fees for a single player. Much of the debate during the off-season surrounded the futures of strikers Romelu Lukaku and Alvaro Morata, both of whom were in high demand as several top clubs went on the hunt for a new goalscorer.
For a long time it seemed that Lukaku would rejoin Chelsea three years after leaving Stamford Bridge, while Morata was tipped to head to Old Trafford for a reunion with former Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho. But United shocked everyone as they announced they had reached an agreement worth £90m to sign Lukaku, while Chelsea brought in Morata a little over a week later for £58m. At the time, some fans were not too pleased to have missed out on the Belgian who had terrorised Premier League defences for the last few seasons.
It was the perfect example of a striker low on confidence as Lukaku failed to back himself to take the strike first time with an open goal in front of him. Chelsea fans jumped on Twitter to share their relief at missing out on the Man United striker, instead praising Morata - who has eight goals from 12 Premier League appearances this season.
