The Nigerian senate on Wednesday ordered the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris to restore the security aides of Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state. ‘It is wrong for the IG of @PoliceNG to withdraw the security aides of a sitting Governor”, Senator Olujimi said. Recall that the IG yesterday withdrew the governors ADC and other security aides, noting that it was to prevent a re-occurrence of past experience. SENATE CHAMBER In his words, “The withdrawal of the ADC was based on the previous experience the police recorded whereby the military caught an ADC to an unnamed governor escorting a vehicle loaded with arms on Election Day. “We do not mean anything bad to Anambra governor on this action; his ADC will be returned to him early Sunday morning after the governorship election on Saturday Nov.18. “We have equally withdrawn all the policemen attached to political appointees, Local Government Chairmen and others in Anambra till after the election,’’ he said. Recall also that Obiano yesterday raised an alarm that he was no longer comfortable standing for Saturday’s governorship poll in the state because his life was in danger.
In view of this therefore, the Nigerian senate today resolved that the Inspector General of Police should restore all his security aides. According to Senator Emmanuel Bwacha who raised a point of order on the IG of @PoliceNG’s withdrawal of the Anambra State Governor’s security aides, said “there must be a level playing ground for all the aspirants and wondered why the governor under immunity will lose his security aides.” The senate president, @bukolasaraki said that the IG of @Police should restore the security aides of the Governor as he needs to do the right thing to protect the democracy of the nation. In addition DSP, Ike Ekweremadu in his additional prayer states that the C’ttee on Police Affairs should ensure that the Governor’s aides are restored by tomorrow and report back to the Senate tomorrow. Reacting to the above order issued by the Nigerian senate to the IG, the National Coordinator APGA Media Warriors Forum, Evang Chinedu Obigwe commended the Nigerian Senate for rising in defence of the Governor. He stated that the action of the Senate will go a long way in deepening Nigeria nascent democracy and nipping injustice and intimidation in the bud. He said that injustice to one is injustice to all hence the reason why lovers of justice are expected to rise in condemnation of the despicable action of the leadership of Nigeria Police Force.
