The Lagos High Court sitting in the Igbosere area of Lagos Island has fixed Friday for the arraignment of suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans. Evans and three others would be arraigned on fresh charges of conspiracy and attempted kidnap by the Lagos State government. The court adjourned after the suspect’s counsel, Olukoya Ogungbeje, told Justice Oloruntoyin Taiwo that he had filed an application seeking to quash the charges brought.
It was exclusively gathered that one of the charges had seven counts of conspiracy and the attempted kidnap of the Chairman of “The Young Shall Grow Motors”, Mr Vincent Amaechi Obianodo. Of the seven counts, two of the charges are for the murder of the policemen attached to Mr Obianodo while in another four counts also filed against the kidnap suspect, Evans was alleged to have conspired with some others to kidnap one Sylvanus Hafia. Elsewhere at the Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday, Justice Mohammed Idris awarded N2million to one Okwuchukwu Obiechina said to be Evans’ brother-in-law.
The order followed the suit filed on Tuesday last week in which Obiechina and his wife, Nzube, challenged their illegal detention by the police. Justice Idris consequently declared that Obiechina’s detention by the police was unconstitutional and held that the remand order which the police claimed to have obtained from a magistrates’ court was invalid.
