The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has partnered Marvel Comics to create a campaign that will raise awareness of how people can work together to tackle climate change and the depletion of the ozone layer. The Ozone Secretariat at UN Environment said that the public engagement campaign known as “Ozone Heroes” is to celebrate the success of the international agreement in protecting Earth against ozone depletion and mitigating climate change.
The campaign was launched on September 15, the eve of the World Ozone Day, at an event co-hosted by the Ozone Secretariat at the UN Environment and the Government of Canada. The campaign includes an online quiz with characters from Iron Man and Guardians of the Galaxy where users can discover their superpower and learn about these issues. Ozone is a gas found in the atmosphere. The ozone layer is a region of high ozone concentration in the atmosphere, 20 to 30 kilometres above the Earth’s surface. The ozone layer acts as an invisible shield that protects the earth’s surface from harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. Scientists say that long-term exposure to high levels of ultra-violet rays from the sun can severely damage most animals, plants and microbes, so the ozone layer protects all life on Earth.

Then, in the mid-1980s, scientists discovered a ‘hole’ in the ozone layer above Antarctica – the region of Earth’s atmosphere with severe depletion. http://konga.postaffiliatepro.com for your best deal of the day Famous personalities who have signed up as Ozone Heroes include Yaya Toure, Premier League footballer for Manchester City; Dia Mirza, an Indian model, actress, producer and beauty queen; Aidan Gallagher of Nickelodeon series Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn, among others.
