Nzuko Umunna which is a leader Igbo socio-cultural group has started gathering signatures in a petition written to President Muhammadu Buhari and acting president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

Vanguard reports that petition has also been written to the secretary-general of the UN, Antonio Guterres, as well as ECOWAS, AU, Amnesty International and the European Union.

This is coming following an October 1 quit notice issued to Igbos living in the north by Arewa youths. The Igbo group called on the international organisations to step into the matter so as to prevent violence. It warned that the quit notice threatened Nigeria’s unity and does not represent the spirit of oneness of the country.

The Kaduna Declaration’ asking fellow citizens of the Igbo stock from southeast Nigeria, to quit the north of Nigeria before October 1, 2017, as they (northern Nigerian youths) would commence ‘visible actions’ which include to “reclaim, assume and assert sole ownership and control of … landed resources currently owned, rented or in any way enjoyed by the … Igbo in any part of Northern Nigeria”, does not reflect the spirit of oneness that Nigeria has been preaching since independence.Meanwhile, Walid Jibrin, chairman of Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), said those calling themselves Arewa youthsmay not be true Hausa because no northerner supports the quit notice.Reports have it that Walid who made this known said the quit notice is a bad action in Nigerian.
