A socio-cultural organisation, Kogi Unity Forum, has said that restructuring, as good as it sounds, cannot work in the present political arrangement in Nigeria. The President of the group, David Anikuroko, made the remarks in Jos, Plateau State, during the inauguration of the new executive of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Plateau. Anikuroko said, “As far as I am concerned, I have always said it that restructuring is a very nice word but the question is if Nigeria can ever be restructured? Are we restructuring the North and South together? Will they enjoy equal dividends of the restructuring? “If the North claims they have 19 states, how do you then restructure 19 out of 36 to be equal with the remaining states? In what sense are we restructuring the country? I am not saying division in the country is good. “Restructuring Nigeria is a good thing but I don’t think it is possible. If you reduce power from the centre, are you reducing the people from the top? When people say the present generation belongs to the youth, I agree, but who are the youth? The youth are still the elderly people who have enriched themselves.”
