IGBO leaders, who were attacked by youths suspected to be members of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB and other pro-Biafra agitation groups in a meeting in Enugu on Tuesday have reeled out gory tales of how they nearly lost their lives during the commotion. IPOB members on solidarity march Secretary of Igbo Leaders of Thought, ILT, and former director-general of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, Prof Elochukwu Amucheazi, said he nearly lost his life during fracas. A group of youths suspected to be members of IPOB and other pro –Biafra groups disrupted the event which was meant to honour some notable Igbo, including the first republic president, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi and late Chief Sam Mbakwe, among others. Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB however, issued a statement yesterday, denying involvement in the attack. Amucheazi told Vanguard on the telephone that, although his red cap, eye glasses and mobile telephone which were forcefully taken away from him were immediately returned, he was still in shock over the attack. He said: “I was there to see Prof Nwabueze, as I didn’t even know about the awards or that anybody would be honoured. “Before much was said, they started shouting and started throwing sachet (pure) water at me. They wanted to destroy my car. We were cautioning them to listen to the elders so that they would learn from them, but they refused to listen. “However, some of the boys who didn’t like what happened or the way I was treated, cautioned their colleagues; collected my red cap, eye glasses and my telephone and returned them to me.” FG must address South East grievances He, however, asked the Federal Government to address the myriad of grievances in the the country to reduce youth restiveness in the land. “There is a lot of anger in the land. Majority of Nigerians are suffering and the government of the day has to address the issues involved. This idea of treating some people or the Igbo as a conquered people will not be allowed to go on forever. “My advice is that the government should address the grievances in the land. The idea of treating Igbo as a conquered people will not be allowed to go on forever. The fact that Nnamdi Kanu was subdued does not mean that another Nnamdi Kanu will not emerge again,” he added. IPOB not applying right method– Maria Okwor Also giving account of what happened, Deputy leader of the Eastern Consultative Assembly, ECA, Chief Mrs Maria Okwor said that the young members of the Indigenous People of Biafra were not applying the appropriate method pursuant of their agitation for a separatist country. She said that IPOB and other Pro-Biafra groups should accept restructuring Nigeria for now, noting that if the country is restructured, it would be easier to realise the autonomous country as being agitated by the groups. Okwor who was reacting to the disruption of ECA meeting in Enugu on Tuesday observed that the Dr Dozie Ikedife-led Biafra agitation group was going about the quest legally and asked the younger agitators to take it easy. She however asked President Muhammadu Buhari to listen to voice of the angry Nigerians and devise a means of assuaging the monumental anger in the country. “Nobody is happy, we are all dissatisfied. Look at the security hierarchy, there is no Igbo there. They said they have defeated Boko Haram but they are still there. I sympathise with these youths and their lives no longer mean anything to them. Incident was unfortunate—Mbazulike Amaechi Reacting to the incident, First Republic Minister of Aviation, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi yesterday described as unfortunate, the disruption of the event of the Igbo leaders in Enugu, advising those who had any reason to protest against any perceived injustice meted out to them to always adopt peaceful means in fighting their cause. “After my address, I was honoured before I left and there was no objection or murmur from the crowd. As I was going, I saw a lot of buses heading towards the venue. It was in the Vanguard Newspaper that I read that there was disruption. “Our people should not forget what Zik did for the country. With him as our leader, we confronted the colonial masters and chased them away and took over government. If not what we did, Nigeria would not have got her independence at the time she did,” he said. IPOB apologises It was also gathered that the leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB had apologised to the leaders of the Eastern Consultative Assembly, ECA, over the disruption of their programme in Enugu. Reliable sources told Vanguard yesterday, IPOB leaders made separate telephone calls to the convener of the ECA meeting where the issue of restructuring of the country was to be discussed, with the awards to prominent eastern leaders as highlight of the occasion. “They felt bad that people like Prof Nwabueze, Maria Okwor and Ugochukwu- Uko, who had been giving them advice on how to go about their agitations in a peaceful manner were embarrassed.

Arsenal have announced that they made a huge profit from their summer transfer dealings, as the club struggles to make the Premier League top four. The club sold Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wojciech Szczesny, Kieran Gibbs and Gabriel in the summer, leaving the club with a massive financial surplus. In their financial results for the six months until the end of November 2017, Arsenal revealed they have made ‘profits on sale of players, amounting to £58.4million’. This does not include their January business, when the £58million signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was largely offset by the sale of Theo Walcott to Everton for £20m, Olivier Giroud to Chelsea for £18m and Francis Coquelin to Valencia for £10m. In total, Arsenal Holdings plc, the company which owns the Gunners, announced a pre-tax profit of £25.1m for the six-month period. This is more than double their profit for 2016, of £12.6m. They say they have no short term debt, and cash reserves of £137.6million – which most Gunners fans want to see invested on the pitch. Arsenal chairman Sir Chips Keswick said: ‘This has not been the easiest of campaigns but we are all working hard to ensure we have a strong finish. ‘Breaking our transfer record twice in one season and the player contracts we have signed shows our commitment to getting the club back competing for the Premier League. ‘However our strategy remains self-financing and we must accept all the challenges that bring at a time when the inflation of transfer fees, player wages and the fees demands by agents has become super-heated. “We need to spend effectively and be the best we can across the whole of our football operations if we are to compete at the level our ambitions for the club demand.”

Chelsea star Eden Hazard has revealed he would like Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne to rejoin him at Stamford Bridge. The pair played together following De Bruyne's move to the club in 2012, although he would depart west London on a permanent basis to Wolfsburg in January 2014. Since returning to the Premier League in 2015, the Belgian international has gone from strength to strength at Manchester City. Now seen as one of the best players in the league, De Bruyne, who penned a new six-year contract with City back in January, could well finish the season by claiming the PFA Player of the Year award. Asked which of his Belgian teammates he would like to join him in the capital, Hazard told Copa90: "Kevin De Bruyne." However, when he was reminded that De Bruyne had already played at Chelsea, Hazard revealed which other Belgian international he would like to play alongside for the Blues. "Go on, I’ll give another one - Radja Nainggolan," said Hazard. "He’s good, he’s good." The Belgian midfielder, who was reportedly attracting interest from the Blues last month, could well depart Serie A giants Roma in the summer with question marks over his long-term future in the Italian capital.

THE Village Head of Ikot Edet in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Mfon Udoessien, has been kidnapped by gunmen. Chief Udoessien was said to have been picked up from his palace, yesterday, by the gunmen after a fierce gun battle with the security agents drafted to provide security in the volatile area. It was learned that the monarch is a brother-in-law to a former Head of Civil Service in Akwa Ibom State. A resident of the area, who is simply identified as Eno, told newsmen that the monarch, a retired primary school headmaster and former Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, in the area, might have been abducted following his stance on cultism. According to him, Udoessien has relentlessly been waging war against the activities of gunmen, who have kidnapped no fewer than eight persons in the village. He said the whereabouts of the monarch is unknown, as the kidnappers are yet to contact the victim’s family. Eno said: “We think the kidnappers came after the Village Head because of how he has been opposing their activities. “As of now, we don’t know his whereabouts as the kidnappers are yet to contact any members of the monarch’s family.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Odiko Macdon, who confirmed the kidnap, said a meeting of the local government chairman and the security chiefs had been convened and far-reaching decisions taken to address the security challenges. According to Macdon, “security measures are in place; we just concluded a meeting with all the local government chairmen and the security chiefs in the state. That issue came up during the meeting; it is being addressed. “The monarch’s kidnap happened this morning (yesterday) and our men ran into action immediately. The DPO led a team to the palace.” script async src="//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js">

Starsport first revealed that Conte will be offered the chance to make a quick return to coaching with his country if he is sacked by the Blues. And former Italy great Alessandro Costacurta, who works for the Italian FA, confirmed that he will seek talks with the 48-year-old. Costacurta said: “I haven’t chosen yet but I think Conte is the one who could do the best. I’ll definitely talk with him in a couple of months.” Italy failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup and are also considering Carlo Ancelotti, Claudio Ranieri and Roberto Mancini for the post. Costacurta added: “Conte has already shown he knows how to be national team coach while the others haven’t yet. “That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t be happy with Mancini or with Ancelotti - although he seems to have removed himself from consideration. “Or the same with Ranieri, who had a difficult experience with Greece but came out stronger and went to Leicester.” Conte remains under pressure at Stamford Bridge with the club lining up former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique to replace him. The Italian has 18 months left on his contract but is widely tipped to leave in the summer and could even be axed before then if results dip.

Defeat to Manchester United on Sunday left Chelsea in fifth place in the Premier League and they are not favourites to get past Barcelona in the Champions League after drawing the first leg 1-1 at Stamford Bridge. Conte guided Italy to the quarter-finals of Euro 2016 before moving to Chelsea, where he won the Premier League in his first season in charge. But if he were to leave he is understood to favour staying in club football rather than returning to his old role after the sacking of Italy boss Giampiero Ventura in November.

With Egypt’s Mohamed Salah continuing his exploits in the English Premier League, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry says he is better than Philippe Coutinho. Henry claims Salah is better than the club’s former star Coutinho, saying he likes his movement and adding that the Pharaohs international is a direct attacker. Salah took the Premier League by storm as has been directly involved in 40 goals in all competitions for the Reds - more than any player in the top flight. Along with Senegal’s Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, the deadly trio hold the best scoring record in the UEFA Champions League this season. Although the Reds’ fans were concerned after Coutinho left the club to join Barcelona in January, Jurgen Klopp and his troops have given them every reason to suggest they have only gotten better. The Gunners' all time EPL top scorer and French legend shared his thoughts on why Salah is even better than the Brazilian.
“I like his movement, he always wants to go in behind,” Henry told Sky Sports. “There’s no step-overs, there’s no trying to nutmeg, there’s no skills for no reason. He’s going at you, if you’re ready or not that’s your problem. “I said at the beginning, I predicted that he can be as efficient as Coutinho. He has been more efficient than Coutinho in his first season. So we will see how far he’s going to go with that. “Listen, if you’re a Liverpool fan and you have Firmino, Salah, Mane, you can only be happy.”

Manchester United’s board members have regretted signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in January, according to El Pais. The Red Devils swooped in to capture Sanchez ahead of rivals Manchester City in the winter window, in a move that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan joining the Gunners. Since moving to United, the 29-year-old has not yet made a huge impression on the team, having scored just once in seven appearances in all competitions. The club’s hierarchy feel that the player would have been much cheaper in the summe, when his contract at Arsenal expired. In addition, it is believed that sections of the club have questioned his high wages amid concerns of unrest within the squad, in particular Paul Pogba, who allegedly wants a pay rise. They are also not comfortable with Sanchez’s age, with the feeling that the Chilean only has a few years left at this level.

4/ 5 stars - "Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed his team selection plans for Champions League and Man Utd clashes" Jurgen Klopp looks set to resist the urge to rest his most important players for the second leg of Liverpool's Champions League last-16 ...

Jurgen Klopp looks set to resist the urge to rest his most important players for the second leg of Liverpool's Champions League last-16 tie against FC Porto next week, despite the club's enormous first-leg advantage and the fact that the fixture precedes the small matter of a north-west derby clash with Manchester United. Liverpool welcome the Primeira Liga leaders to Anfield next Tuesday [6 March] boasting a commanding 5-0 lead after a hat-trick from Sadio Mane and further goals from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah helped secure their joint-largest knockout victory in Europe's elite club competition at the Estadio do Dragao earlier this month to put one foot firmly in the quarter-finals. Emre Can asks Juventus to wait until end of season to finalise deal so he can focus on LiverpoolREAD MORE Why advertise with us Klopp has not previously been shy to rotate his squad at times this season in order to keep players fresh amid periods of heavy fixture congestion and prevent them from playing three times a week, and that second meeting with Porto may have presented an obvious opportunity for certain key performers to take the night off ahead of the trip to Old Trafford four days later. Third-place Liverpool, who host Newcastle United in the Premier League this weekend, temporarily leapfrogged Jose Mourinho's team with a 4-1 drubbing of West Ham United on Saturday [24 February] and that forthcoming derby could be important in deciding who finishes as runners-up behind dominant leaders Manchester City. However, Klopp insists he is planning to field a strong XI against both Porto and United but did describe criticism of Arsenal's team selection for their shock pre-Carabao Cup final Europa League last-32 second-leg defeat to Swedish minnows Ostersunds FK last week as unwarranted.
"Another week now for Newcastle, then Porto and United in one week," he was quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo. "All the people before the Porto game will tell me, 'Now you can rest him, him and him'. "Arsenal for example, that's so unfair. They were through in the tie and had a final on Sunday yet I only hear after the game things like, 'wow that was embarrassing against a Swedish team'. But they are through in the tie and played a final on Sunday. "That's the situation. We play Man United, we will not rest anybody. We will play a strong side against Porto and a strong side against United." Free-scoring Liverpool should welcome back Georginio Wijnaldum and Danny Ings for a busy March schedule that also includes top-flight meetings with Crystal Palace and Watford after both players missed the win over West Ham through illness. Long-term absentee Nathaniel Clyne completed 90 minutes for Neil Critchley's Under-23s in their 4-0 Premier League 2 defeat of Stoke City on Sunday [25 February]. It was the England right-back's first appearance since the pre-season opener against Tranmere Rovers in July, since when he has been hampered by a serious back injury. He previously accompanied his teammates to Porto and then Marbella, where Liverpool held a four-day warm-weather training camp earlier this month.

UGHELLI – NIGER Delta activist and former Minister for environment, AnnKio Briggs has warned that any one joining former President Olusegun Obasanjo to “fight” President Muhammadu Buhari, does so at his or her own risk. Annkio-Briggs Briggs in a statement yesterday, also noted that contrary to claims in some quarters that former President Goodluck Jonathan did a lot for the Ijaw nation including ensuring the election of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Obasanjo only did so for his “selfish reasons.” Taking a swipe on Governor Seriake Dickson for inviting Obasanjo to Bayelsa in commemoration of the governor’s 6th anniversary, she said: “His (Obasanjo) visit confirms that Ijaw politicians are in politics for themselves and not Ijaw nation.” Briggs while mourning those who lost their lives during the 1999 Odi massacre, said: “Obasanjo should have been taken to Odi before he leaves Bayelsa to enable those who survived the Odi massacre confer on him a traditional title.” Describing the visit of the former president as “dancing on the graves of the people killed by the army,” she said: “May the over 4000 innocent Odi women, men, old and young, youths and children who were shelled, bombed, drowned, and murdered by Olusegun Obasanjo through the Nigeria Army haunt him. “He did not pick Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as Vice President for the love of Ijaw or Niger Delta people, he did not support him in 2011 for love of Ijaw or Niger Delta people, but did so for his own selfish reasons, and when Jonathan did not be please him as president, he turned against him.” Reacting to Obasanjo’s advice to President Buhari not to run for second term, Briggs said: “He is getting set to fight Buhari and he is pretending to be a friend of Ijaw and Niger Delta people. “Anyone who joins Obasanjo to fight Buhari is doing so at his or her own risk, Ijaw people will not vote for Buhari and we don’t need Obasanjo to tell us that.”

LAGOS—AT a time some leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the South-East are mobilising support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election to pave the way for Igbo presidency in 2023, some Igbo leaders have said that the Igbo are not interested in the presidency without restructuring of the country. This was the view of some Igbo leaders, who met with the Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe-led Ohanaeze committee on collation of Igbo views on restructuring on Sunday night in Lagos. Vanguard gathered that Igbo leaders at the meeting held in Ikoyi included Deputy President General of Ohanaeze, Dr Sylvan Ebigwei; Dr Kalu Idika Kalu; Chief Guy Ikokwu; Agunze Chibeze Ikokwu; Professor Uzodinma Nwala; Chief Charles Odinukwe; representatives of South-East governors; and members of Igbo Think-Tank group, Aka-Ikenga among others. Raised with the intention of ensuring that the Igbo present a common view on restructuring, the Senator Abaribe committee had its first meeting in Abuja. The Lagos gathering is the second in the series.

There will be another meeting in Enugu on March 4 to be followed by the Ime-Obi (inner caucus meeting) of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which will lead to an enlarged Igbo summit. Asked the views of Igbo leaders at the meeting, Chief Guy Ikokwu told Vanguard: ‘’We debated Igbo position on geo-political restructuring. Igbo insist on restructuring of the polity immediately. We are not interested in Igbo presidency now without restructuring. We are calling on the presidency and the National Assembly to proceed with restructuring immediately. ‘’The Federal Government or the centre should have less power than it has now. It should devolve power to the federating units. We agree with the South-West and the Middle Belt that the federating units should be the zones with the states under them. Each zone should have its constitution. There should be fiscal federalism and resource control. ‘’We are looking at six zones, three in the South and three in the North. The majority of Ndigbo believe, like the South-West, that the federating units should be the zones. With true restructuring, equality of zones, fiscal federalism and resources control, there will be no need for an additional state in the South-East. Each zone will be free to create as many states at it deems fit without recourse to the centre.’’ On the herdsmen crisis, he said the leaders want South-East governors to ‘’see livestock, breeding of animals or ranching as an economic activity, as our forefathers did in the old Eastern region. Chief Michael Okpara established ranches across the Eastern region and we had the Obudu Cattle Ranch. Apart from meat, we produced dairy products. Livestock is not only cattle. It includes pigs, goats, rabbits, sheep, etc. Today, we don’t have Igbo livestock any longer. We expect our governors to have something to show in this regard in 24 months.’’

Chelsea have initiated contract talks with Eden Hazard in a bid to convince him to shun interest from Real Madrid with a massive weekly wage offer of £300,000 per week. The champions are desperate to hold on to their prized asset, with the Belgian returning to his best form this season. But with only two years left on his deal, his market value will likely dip after this summer. The Mail claim that Chelsea value him at £200m and that bonuses will be added to a basic £300,000 per week to persuade him to sign on the dotted line.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on Monday, said that the reason why politicians sponsored non-existent ‘new fake IPOB leader’ was because the pro-Biafra group is more popular than Nigeria while Nnamdi Kanu is more acceptable than any politician in Nigeria. The group said it is more potent now than before the advent of Operation PYTHON DANCE II given to its activities and that it has re-strategised and been re-engineered. A statement by the Head of Directorate of State (HDoS) of IPOB, Mazi Chika Edoziem, said that to stop alleged shameless corrupt politicians from further misinforming the public about the operations of IPOB, it had alerted all major governments of the world to be mindful of every information they receive from persons claiming to be part of IPOB. It read in part: “Not too long ago the masses were bombarded with the false narrative that IPOB had been defeated, weakened and crushed. Nnia Nwodo led Ohaneze Ndigbo, DSS and elements within the South East governors forum made considerable amount of financial gain and political capital out of perpetuating the myth that IPOB is no more. When it dawned on them that we IPOB are now even more potent than before the advent of Operation Python Dance II, given the successful boycott of Anambra governorship elections, they have re-strategised and re-engineered the narrative into a split within IPOB”. “Nnia Nwodo has been heard on many occasions recently boasting to his Northern handlers in the presidency, and in his words that “IPOB is riddled with factions and I’m in touch with leaders of these factions”. Nothing can be farther from the truth. He is peddling this myth to justify the money he collected from the presidency to sabotage the divinely ordained Biafra restoration project” the group alleged. “To stop shameless corrupt politicians from further misinforming the public about the operations of IPOB, we have alerted all major governments of the world to be mindful of every information they receive from persons claiming to be part of IPOB” “In this regard, we hereby inform the world that unless a correspondence emanates from IPOB world headquarters in Langenfeld Germany signed and sealed by Mazi Uche Mefor deputy leader of IPOB and Mazi Chika Edoziem head of Directorate of State, such document should be ignored. Enemies of freedom are going to extra ordinary length to subvert the will of the people but we assure them they will never succeed. “We reiterate our call to Okezie Ikpeazu, Nnia Nwodo, DSS and Federal Ministry of Information to ask their fake ‘IPOB leader’ to tell the world where he operates from, where he comes from or which IPOB unit he belongs to. Planting written anonymous unsigned press statements in the Nigerian media with the hope that highly intelligent followership of IPOB, the largest freedom fighting movement in the world, will succumb to such nonsensical subterfuge is mere wishful thinking”. “Those people in the pay of this APC government that have taken it upon themselves to plant false and fake news in the public domain must understand they are undermining public trust in the media. It is particularly worrying that certain individuals will publish unsigned press statements from shadowy individuals working for dubious politicians with the sole intention of misleading the public”. “We urge media houses to refrain from publishing any press statement from anonymous sources. They should not allowing themselves to become unwitting agents of fake news as may appear to be the case in the ongoing effort by Okezie Ikpeazu, Nnia Nwodo and Lai Mohammed’s Ministry of Information in collaboration with DSS to mislead the masses into thinking that IPOB is factionilised when such is not the case. “Verification of the source of every information and statement given for publication will help identify and isolate those bent on spreading falsehood. Similar exacting standards must be applied to purported statements issued by faceless persons claiming they are part of the great IPOB worldwide family? “Reputable publications should not knowingly publish statements from person or persons they themselves know don’t exist? An unsigned press statement is confirmation that the information being peddled is false because you can’t link it to any conformable source”. “To prove that the latest ‘Okwudili’ installment is fake and going by their latest statement, nobody was identified as having signed the statement, it only said “news made available to”. In the interest of public confidence, we would like to ask media houses to please confirm the existence of person or persons issuing public statements regarding IPOB before publishing such,” Edoezim stated.

Manchester — Former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku scored and then created the winning goal against his old team at Old Trafford on Sunday. The win put United back in second place in the Premier League, still 13 points behind neighbours Manchester City, while Chelsea drop below Tottenham into fifth place. The win was just about merited after a much improved second-half performance by Jose Mourinho’s side. Chelsea were the brighter team early on and Alvaro Morata, brought back into the side, volleyed against the bar after only four minutes. The Londoners deserved the lead that Willian gave them after 31 minutes, taking Eden Hazard’s pass and beating David de Gea at his near post. As United improved, Lukaku belied his reputation for not scoring against the big clubs by equalising before half-time, then crossed perfectly for substitute Jesse Lingard to head the winner in the 75th minute. Each manager had brought an expensive signing back into their starting XI with Morata replacing Pedro for Chelsea and United’s record signing Paul Pogba picked, although young Scott McTominay kept his place. Morata was more influential initially, hitting the crossbar from Marcos Alonso’s volleyed cross. New striker Alexis Sanchez failed to convert a good chance for United, who fell behind four minutes later. Willian, the scorer against Barcelona in midweek, led a break from his own half and took Hazard’s pass before a shot that De Gea should have done better with. In the second half the goalkeeper was also troubled by drives from Danny Drinkwater and Willian that bounced in front of him. Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois was more impressive in saving a fine effort from Lukaku from a pass by Sanchez. United were getting on top and Lingard had been on for only a few minutes when he headed in a perfect curling cross from the right by Lukaku, whose performance added to Chelsea’s frustration at not having secured his return from Everton in the close-season.

Their mood was not improved when Hazard had to come off and Morata’s late effort was ruled out for offside by the narrowest of margins. In Sunday’s early game Harry Kane headed a late winner to give Tottenham Hotspur a deserved 1-0 victory at Crystal Palace that lifted them into fourth place. Kane headed home from Christian Eriksen’s corner in the 88th minute to make up for two glaring misses earlier in the match at Selhurst Park. He should have put Tottenham ahead early on when the ball fell to him in the middle of the box after a mistake by Patrick van Aanholt, but Wayne Hennessey spread himself well and the striker’s shot ballooned over the bar. The England striker was guilty of a more glaring miss early in the second half when Eriksen passed from the right and Kane, with time and space on the left, shot wide. "We left that very late," Kane said. "I thought it wasn’t going to be our day because we had a few chances, especially me, and Serge Aurier had one at the end too. But we kept going until the end and eventually got our rewards."

Chelsea visit Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon hoping to do the double over Manchester United and former manager Jose Mourinho.

Alvaro Morata’s superb header handed the Blues a 1-0 victory over United when the two sides met at Stamford Bridge in November, though the Red Devils remain ahead of Chelsea in the Premier League table. However, a victory for Chelsea this afternoon would move Antonio Conte’s side level on points with United, and would make the race for a top four finish even more intense. Both teams have been struck down by a number of injuries in the run up to the match, with David Luiz, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Ross Barkley missing for the visitors, while United are without Marouane Fellaini, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Ander Herrera. So, who has been selected for the Old Trafford clash? The confirmed teams can be seen, in full, below… Confirmed line-ups:

Manchester United XI:

e Gea, Valencia, Lindelof, Smalling, Young, McTominay, Matic, Pogba, Martial, Lukaku, Sanchez

Substitutes:

Bailly, Mata, Lingard, Carrick, Rashford, Shaw, Joel Pereira

Chelsea XI:

Courtois, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger, Moses, Kante, Drinkwater, Alonso, Willian, Hazard, Morata

Substitutes:

Caballero, Fabregas, Pedro, Giroud, Zappacosta, Cahill, Emerson

Former Minister of Health, Prof A.B.C. Nwosu, has described Igbos as lazy thinkers, who are acting strangely ahead of the 2019 general elections. According to him, Igbo were thinking that by merely supporting President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, they will automatically become President in 2023. Speaking with Daily Sun, Nwosu maintained that it would be difficult for an Igboman to emerge as President in 2023, because, “The Igbo are acting very strangely on 2019. “They are some lazy thinkers, who think that if you let the present order continue, and after four years, you just go and pick it because it is your turn. “It won’t happen that way. If the Igbo are not aggressive about who becomes president in 2019, and aggressive that they are in the centre of power, and they are represented in the centre of power, how can power where they are not represented be handed over to them in 2023? “What if the power where they are not represented hands it over to another person? Then you see the persons again drag out their knives and matchetes and go into the local markets and start shouting, Enyimba Enyi. “This is the time to struggle to be part of the presidency. They will either be the vice president completely and be represented in all national structures of power.”

On an April afternoon at Old Trafford last year, Ander Herrera succeeded where so many others failed during Chelsea's 2016-17 Premier League winning-campaign. Eden Hazard was unable to escape the Manchester United midfielder's shadow that day, completely nullified by what was a complete man-marking job from the Spaniard who also went on to seal the 2-0 victory with a second-half goal – having also provided the assist for Marcus Rashford's opener. That won't be happening today – Herrera is ruled out this afternoon with an unspecified knock with Jose Mourinho unsure as to how long he will be without the midfielder for. While there is the small matter of the Carabao Cup final taking place this afternoon, we have a classic Premier League fixture to look forward to first. You can take your pick from the subplots running through Manchester United vs Chelsea. Romelu Lukaku playing against the club who tried to buy him back during the summer. Nemanja Matic lining up against his former club. And the simmering row between Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte threatening to take centre stage.

Stick around, all your team news and build up is on the way.

They are the source of his increasingly-bitter feud with Jose Mourinho and in the build-up to their first encounter since their last war of words, Antonio Conte has revealed the real reason for his touchline antics: his father. Opening up like never before about his trademark wild celebrations and explosive tantrums, Conte divulged how it all stemmed from dad and former youth-team coach Cosimo - something that might explain why he took such offence at his predecessor at Chelsea insinuating such managers were “clowns”. In a clear indication he had no intention of toning things down for Sunday afternoon’s showdown with his nemesis at Manchester United, Conte said: “My first owner, when I started to play football, it was my father. He was the owner, the coach, the kitman, the groundsman. “I spent my life from the start on the pitch following the team of my father. For this reason, I have to thank him for this passion, for the passion I have for this sport.” His father’s influence remains undimmed, with Conte revealing he had been chastised for failing to show enough passion during Chelsea’s shock 4-1 defeat at Watford this month. “My father watched the game against Watford and phoned me up and said, ‘I didn’t see you with the right anger, with the right passion’. He told me that. “Maybe in the future, when I become older, for sure, I have to try and stay more calm and live more relaxed the game. “But I think, also, this is my strength, to stay on the touchline and push my players, to push myself.” And it is not just Conte’s father who frets when he is not doing so. “My wife and my daughter? They start to be worried when they don't see me very active. Because that means I'm not happy.” He added: “I was an assistant coach. I remember, in some games, I shouted more than the coach. A lot of times, at the end of the games, I had to say sorry. But this is my way to live the game.”
So much so, he confessed, that he does not even notice what might be happening in the adjacent dugout. “I don’t see what happens on the other bench, or what the other manager does,” he said. “In that moment, I'm alone and there is the pitch, my players, the game. I don’t see what happens because my focus is only on the pitch. It’s great this, for me.” Conte and Mourinho first fell out over the Italian’s celebrations when the United boss accused his successor at Chelsea of trying to humiliate him during his 4-0 defeat on his first return to Stamford Bridge. So despite not mentioning Conte in his remarks about clowns last month, the insinuation was obvious enough for their spat to turn nasty. In a tawdry tit-for-tat that ran for more than a week, Conte responded by accusing Mourinho of having “demenza senile” by forgetting his own back catalogue of touchline theatrics. Mourinho then bit back with an unsubtle reference to Conte’s suspension for failing to report match-fixing in Italy, prompting the latter to brand him “a little man” and a “fake” and challenge him to “meet me in a room, just me and him” at this game. Conte refused to reignite their feud, threatening to walk out of his pre-match press conference if questions continued to be asked about it. Yet, he appeared eager to justify the kind of behaviour that led to them falling out in the first place, his celebration of Chelsea’s fourth goal in what was Mourinho’s heaviest Premier League defeat. “Sometimes, when you score early, then you don’t celebrate a lot because you know there are 70 or 80 minutes still to play,” Conte said. “If it’s near the end you understand that the win is very close, or if you score in the 90th or 91st minute, then it’s very difficult to control your emotions.” “After the game, if we win, I think there is a great peace in myself,” he said. “This is the moment that I find peace completely in my mind, in my body. I’m tired, but if we win, it’s the best moment for me. I enjoy that moment. I know that, probably, the time is two hours, three hours - especially if we play [every] three days - to enjoy this moment, and then I have to start preparing another game. “When we lose, it’s not a good moment for me. I prefer to stay silent. After the game, it’s not good to speak. Especially if you are angry, it’s dangerous, dangerous. It’s important to calm yourself and take a day, two days to recover and then restart.”

Liverpool have stretched their unbeaten home run in the Premier League to 16 games and moved to second after yet another devastating performance at Anfield gave them a 4-1 win over West Ham. Socceroos goalkeeper Mat Ryan's Brighton did their survival hopes a favour by beating Swansea by the same scoreline, while injured countryman Aaron Mooy's Huddersfield also had a win, 2-1 over last-placed West Brom. Ryan made a spectacular save to deny Ki Sung-yueng early in the second half with his side leading 1-0 thanks to Glenn Murray's 18th-minute penalty.

On Merseyside the irrepressible Mohamed Salah scored his 31st goal in all competitions after setting up Emre Can's opener and Roberto Firmino made it 3-0 before substitute Michail Antonio pulled one back in an action-packed encounter. Can headed Liverpool into a 29th-minute lead after Salah swung in a corner and the Egyptian doubled the advantage in the 51st when he drilled an unstoppable shot into the far corner from 10 metres past the wrong-footed Adrian. Firmino added the third six minutes later as he rounded the West Ham keeper and Sadio Mane scored Liverpool's fourth with a simple tap-in after Antonio had given visiting fans something to cheer about with his first touch of the ball. "It is a nice moment, not more," Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said of going second.

Ahead of the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) exercise, scores of candidates, who registered for the exam, staged a protest in Lagos over what they described as the inconsiderate stance of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) by fixing the examination for March. The protesting candidates were led by the National President of the Association of Tutorial School Operators, Mr. Dotun Sodunke. Many of them were seen carrying placards, which bore various inscriptions such as; “Admissions are yet to close, why conducting another UTME now?”; “JAMB isn’t for revenue generation, stop milking our parents,” “2017 UTME held in May, why March in 2018?”, “2018 admissions not transparent”. Addressing the press during the protest, Sodunke warned that Nigerians might witness mass failure; if JAMB went on to hold the examination as scheduled. Arguing that the board’s decision to fix the date of the examination for March was not in the best interest of the candidates, he said the latter needed enough time to complete the UTME syllabus before sitting the examination. Wondering if revenue generation for the Federal Government was more important to the examination body than the education of the candidates and by implication, the future of Nigeria, Sodunke said, “The new head of JAMB needs to be called to order. He should not be carried away by the euphoria of revenue generation. The future of this country depends on these children. ‘Admissions have not been concluded in many schools, yet JAMB has fixed a date for another one. Where is such a thing done?” He also described the introduction of the Central Admission Processing System as a “fraud”, saying it was wrong to admit candidates on JAMB’s portal only to deny them admission later on the CAPS page.

“Everything is done in secret. We don’t even know which schools are organising the post-UTME and which ones are not. Every institution is doing what it wants to do. This thing must not be allowed to continue in this way,” he said. However, the Head of the Press and Public Relations Unit of JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, explained that there was yet no basis for the postponement being sought by the candidates, saying the date had been fixed as early as December, 2017, and that it was made public. Benjamin said; “We need to place the interest of this country above selfish interest. The candidates are not the ones staging protest but the tutorial centres operators, and parents must intervene to rein them in. They are doing this because they want to keep the candidates at their centres till May so that they can get more money from them. Things are not done that way. “JAMB is not alone in this business. All stakeholders in Nigeria’s education sector have realised that our calendar must be organised and firm as we experience abroad, and it must start somewhere. “Even if heaven will fall, the new government wants to ensure that academic calendar starts every August, and that is why all admissions will be concluded by August this year. So if these candidates are affected, we apologise to them, it is for their good and the good of the nation.”

Chelsea Play Maker Willian say's he will put Jose Mourinho friendship on hold for Manchester United clash

Mourinho brought Willian to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2013 and the pair won a domestic cup double together the following season, before Mourinho left Chelsea by mutual consent at the end of 2015. The Blues trail United by three points ahead of their Old Trafford showdown, live on Sky Sports Premier League. Willian will put his affection for Mourinho to one side as Chelsea aim to keep their Champions League qualification hopes alive. "I had great memories with him [Mourinho]," the Brazilian told Sky Sports. "He was a great, great manager for me, and I think not only for me - also for Chelsea for the fans. "But now I am still at Chelsea and he is in Manchester and I have to look to my side. Of course, we are friends but when you go onto the pitch you have to do your job. "It's a massive game on Sunday and we are looking forward to it. We expect, of course, a difficult game. To play there is not easy. We know that and I think we now have to stay at the same level we played at when we played Barcelona."

Manchester United have reportedly told Real Madrid they would have to cough up £88million if they want David De Gea in the summer. According to Marca, United hope placing a huge price on the 27-year-old, would discourage Real from trying to sign him. De Gea reminded La Liga suitors just what he is capable of, with his wonder save against Sevilla in the Champions League on Wednesday night. The Spanish goalkeeper was set to move to Real for £35m in the summer of 2015, only to see the move collapse in the final seconds of the window. But if the move is going to happen again, it would cost Real €100m (£88m). It is understood that De Gea’s value has come straight from the Glazer family, who will refuse to accept anything less.
