Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has advised Nigerian leaders, religious and political to work for the unity of Nigeria than allow themselves be torn apart by temptations.
The Nigeria Television Authority reports that Osinbajo made this known in a statement from his office.

According to the report, Osinbajo also reaffirmed the commitment of the federal government to defending the rule of law and protecting the lives of Nigerians no matter their religious or ethnic background.

Osinbajo also warned that defaulters must be made to face the full wrath of the law despite the limitations of the criminal justice system in the country.

He also noted that with President Muhammadu Buhari’s instruction to security agencies, military and the police to send reinforcements to southern Kaduna to enforce peace, things will soon be all right.

Osinbajo then charged all Nigerians to work together to find a lasting solution to the crisis and resist the temptation to succumb to divisive tendencies

Recall that just some days ago, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) sent a message to Osinbajo, calling on him to defend Christians as he is in office to do so.

In a statement by Bayo Oladeji, special assistant on media to the CAN president Rev Dr Samson Olasupo Ayokunle, the religious body said the issues of the DSS trying to arrest Apostle Johnson Suleman was a slap on the faces on Christians and wondered why Osinbajo who is also a Christian is keeping quiet about it.

Donald Trump has fired the acting US attorney general, after she questioned the legality of his immigration ban.
Sally Yates, who had been appointed under Barack Obama, earlier ordered justice department lawyers not to enforce the president's executive order.
Dana Boente, US attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, replaced her as acting attorney general.
He has directed the department to enforce Mr Trump's order.
In a statement, the White House said Ms Yates had "betrayed" the department.
Mr Trump's order temporarily banned nationals from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the US, and sparked street protests in the US and abroad.

In a letter, Ms Yates had said she was "not convinced" that the president's order was lawful.
"As long as I am the acting attorney general, the department of justice will not present arguments in defence of the Executive Order," she said.

Labour has accused Theresa May of “appeasement” towards Donald Trump after Downing Street again rejected a petition calling for the cancellation of the president’s state visit to Britain.

A Downing Street source dismissed agreeing to the petition, which has now attracted almost a million signatures, as a “populist gesture”.

The BBC quoted the source saying: “The invitation has been issued and accepted. To scrap the visit would undo everything following Mrs May’s visit. America is a huge and important ally we have to think long term.”

Shadow attorney general Shami Chakrabarti urged the prime minister to think again. “I’m afraid that sounds like appeasement to me,” she told BBC Breakfast after being read the statement from Downing Street.

She added: “The world is in a very precarious situation at the moment and we will not make this world safer or fairer by appeasing bullies like Mr Trump.”

Chakrabarti said Trump’s travel ban was counter-productive. She said: “It will make the world a less safe place and we got to do everything we can to stand up to this bully in the White House. That special relationship has to be based on shared values and so far what I have seen from Mr Trump is misogyny, racism, ill-treatment of refugees, reinstatement of torture and just a general pedalling of hate.”

She added: “I would urge the prime minister to think again. A state visit is premature we should not be rewarding human rights abuses by rolling out the red carpet in this country.

Federal Government has to review its visa policy with the United States of America, else Nigerians will no longer from this day hence-fort enjoy visas to the US with two-year validity, acc0rding to an Executive Ordered issued by President Donald Trump on Friday last week.

Section 9 of the Executive Order states: “The Secretary of State shall review all non-immigrant visa reciprocity agreements to ensure that they are, with respect to each visa classification, truly reciprocal insofar as practicable with respect to validity period and fees, as required by sections 221(c) and 281 of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1201(c) and 1351, and other treatment.

“If a country does not treat United States nationals seeking non-immigrant visas in a reciprocal manner, the Secretary of State shall adjust the visa validity period, fee schedule, or other treatment to match the treatment of United States nationals by the foreign country, to the extent practicable.” Currently, Nigeria issues a visa with one year validity to US citizens, which is a non-reciprocation of the two-year visa the country issues to Nigerians, which is what the US President seeks to correct. Also, Nigerians who hold dual nationality will be affected if their other passport is from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen, the seven Muslim-majority countries “of concern.”

FCT-The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has made is clear that the N7.289 trillion 2017 budget estimates presented to the National Assembly in December last year would be carefully reviewed for a fair distribution of projects nationwide.

The senate President Bukola Saraki, who stated this at the end of the general debate on the fundamental principles on the budget in the Senate, instructed the chairmen of standing committees to reflect that during budget defence with the various government ministries and agencies.

He said to guarantee compliance, the leadership will meet with the chairmen next Tuesday preparatory to a public hearing holding between February 7 and 8.

exact words: "We are doing this exercise in the spirit of equitable distribution of projects. I will like all our respective committees to take note of that and ensure that we do our best to make this exercise better than last year.

"We must take note of some of the contributions by our colleagues. Although we passed a law that a percentage of the Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF) should go to the health sector which till date has still not been implemented, the fact remains that the budget for the sector is still below the minimum we agreed."

Consequently, the upper chamber of the National Assembly suspended plenary till February 21 to allow for the various government ministries and agencies to defend their budgets.

yesterday, a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by its Senior Resident Representative, African Development, Mr. Amine Mati, yesterday, met with the House of Representatives committees on Finance, Appropriations and Debts, Loans and Aids to have a first-hand knowledge of what the Federal Government was doing to tackle the prevailing recession in the country.

From the statement of  Mati, his organisation was worried about the economic situation in Nigeria and had find solution to assess the situation with a view to compiling a report in the coming weeks, adding that the move would be useful to both parties.

exact words: "I am pleased to inform you that the IMF normally carries out assessment such as this, at least once in a year on countries going through one form of economic challenge or the other.

"To compile our reports, we usually meet with governments, members of parliaments, civil society groups and other bodies to get their views. "The report we intend to do on the Nigerian situation will probably be in March this year. The panels' heads were unanimous that government was up and doing in bailing the country out of the crisis.

As things stand, The Gambia has two serving Presidents, with incumbent Yahya Jammeh refusing to give up power
Senegalese troops have entered The Gambia, an army spokesman said, moments after the UN Security Council voted unanimously to back the right of election winner Adama Barrow to take power.

Mr Barrow was sworn in as President in exile on Thursday afternoon, in the country’s embassy in neighbouring Senegal, while incumbent Yahya Jammeh continues to cling on to power.

The Security Council resolution invited the formidable west African regional bloc to ensure Mr Barrow’s election victory was respected, but a last-minute amendment urged the use of “political means first”.

Yet minutes after the resolution had passed, Senegalese Colonel Abdou Ndiaye issued a brief statement to news agencies declaring: “We have entered Gambia.”

Mr Barrow’s inauguration ceremony was held in a small conference room at the Dakar embassy, and attended by dignitaries including the President of the Commission from the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas).

The bloc had threatened to invade The Gambia and forcefully eject Mr Jammeh if he did not step aside peacefully, giving a deadline of midnight on Wednesday. Nigerian gunboats and Senegalese troops assembled on the Gambian border.

Introducing the new President Barrow on Thursday afternoon, an official declared that “after 22 years of a gruelling dictatorship, the Gambian people have opted for change”.

Mr Barrow addressed the audience of delegates, saying: “This is victory of the Gambian nation. Our national flag will now fly high among the other democratic nations of the world.

"This is a day no Gambian will ever forget.

The hastily-arranged ceremony was also an opportunity for the international community to express support for Mr Barrow, their chosen candidate. An Ecowas official said: “The Ecowas Commission, African Union and United Nations congratulate his excellency Adama Barrow, President of the republic of The Gambia, as he is sworn in following his victory at the presidential election on 1 December 2016.

“The Ecowas Commision, AU and UN equally congratulate the people of The Gambia who have demonstrated patience, discipline, maturity and resolve to express their popular will at the election and during the post-election crisis.”
