Lagos Federal High Court has dismeissed an application filed by Diezani Alison-Madueke, former Minister of Petroleum Resources, that she be joined as a defendant in an alleged N450m fraud case in Nigeria. Ex Petroleum minister, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke The judge, Justice Rilwan Aikawaon, Wednesday rejected her application which he said was bizarre and misuse of court processes, stressing that he would not allow himself to be used to frustrate Diezani’s imminent trial in the United Kingdom, where she currently under investigation and on bail. Alison-Madueke, who is currently in London where she is being investigated for money laundering, is seeking an opportunity to defend the allegations in a charge filed against her, Mohammed Belgore, SAN, and a former Minister of National Planning, Abubakar Sulaiman. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday opposed the application filed by Diezani Alison-Madueke, seeking to be joined as a defendant in a N450m fraud charge before Justice Rilwan Aikawa.

Ogirisi Igbo and a member, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, has urged anybody or group of persons with the plan to rig the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State to desist from such or face the wrath of the gods of the land.





In a statement, Ezeonwuka said election riggers would have the electorate who are vested with Ogirisi powers to contend with. On the alleged plan by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to use the federal might to thwart votes in favour of its candidate, Ezeonwuka expressed his readiness to unleash Ogirisi on election-riggers no matter how highly placed, adding that the gods of the land are stronger and the enemies of the state.





He urged electorate who have obtained their voter cards to get ready and be at the polling unit where they registered to cast their votes and ensure that their votes are counted before going home. He said that relevant stakeholders like traditional rulers, church and leaders, town unions’ members and youths have expressed readiness to resist any attempt to rig the election. “APGA candidate will emerge victorious. We don’t need to rig the election to achieve that because Governor Willie Obiano has done wonderfully well this past four years. The people are ready to vote and ensure that their votes count. In APGA our slogan is: No to rigging, our votes must count. Vote Willie Obiano,” he said.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has finally produced the detained former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, in court. This is in compliance with an order of the Federal High Court in Abuja, that the ex-NSA should appear as a witness in the ongoing trial of a former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Olisa Metuh.

Dasuki was produced by DSS operatives ahead of the Wednesday’s proceedings. He, is however yet to take the stand and this will be dependent on whether the court rules in favour of or against his motion seeking for a stay of proceedings pending his appeal before the appellate court. The National Coordinator of Strict Movement Against Ravages in Tivland, Gbakighir Sevendagas, has called on the Federal Government to prepare Sambisa Forest for herdsmen and their cows if it insists on maintaining grazing reserves or open grazing. Sevendagas condemned the Fulani herdsmen’s insistence on open grazing, while urging the Benue State Government to curb encroachment of major roads and streets for religious activities.
Earlier, the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, had said the government would ensure the full implementation of the new anti-grazing law expected to come today into force on Wednesday, November, 1, 2017.
Ortom said the law would be enforced, “even if it amounts to going to the International Court in The Hague. Ortom, who was represented by his deputy, Benson Abounu, while receiving in audience youths under the auspices of Strict Movement Against Ravages in Tivland, SMART Land, said the promulgation of the law was solely for the benefit of the citizens who has lobbied for it. He said the aim of the law was to protect lives and property of residents of Benue State, “irrespective of their religion and nationality;” adding, “That is why we have Igbo, Yoruba and other communities in the group here today.” “The law is to protect all classes of people of Benue State because the law makes provision against cattle rustling and destruction of crop farming. “As from Wednesday, the law will take effect and there is no going back on it, even if it amounts to going to International Court in Hague.


Scores of youths across Benue State had marched round major streets of Makurdi to rally support for the anti-open gazing law, vowing to protect and preserve their land.

Second republic Vice-President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, has reportedly collapsed and has been admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of Memfys Hospital for Neurosurgery, by Penok petrol station in Trans-Ekulu, Enugu State. It was gathered that Ekwueme collapsed around 2am last Saturday, at his residence in Independence Layout, Enugu. The development comes barely 10 days (October 10) after he celebrated his 85th birthday. “He was trying to get something from the table when he suddenly collapsed and immediately someone raised the alarm, we proceeded to revive him while cautious enough not to attract neighbours,” a relative, who spoke to Punch on the condition of anonymity, said.




He added, “When it became obvious that he had lapsed into coma, we rushed him to a hospital (unnamed) in GRA (Government Reserved Area), but we were referred to Memphys Hospital by medical consultants who had critically examined his condition. “When there was no sign of improvement on Monday afternoon, we rallied round and informed the former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, who is like a son, and he has been making plans to fly him overseas,” the source added. Medical personnel at Memphys Hospital said that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State broke down in tears on seeing Ekwueme at the Intensive Care Unit on Tuesday evening.

President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that he wants Nigerians to remember him as a leader that met a vandalised Nigeria, and reset the buttons on almost all areas of national life — political, social, economic, local and international image. According to Buhari, his government would not rest on its oars until the rots created in the nation’s political space by preceding government were cleared.

He made this points in an interview published in the current edition of African Economy. Buhari said he met a vandalized Nigeria upon assumption of office in 2015 and has been ‎working hard to fix it before exit from office. He said, “We are doing our best, and we will continue to do so. God is kind to us, giving us good rains and rich harvest for two consecutive years, and very soon, we would not have cause to import grains. “We would be remembered as the government that put Nigeria on the path of food self-sufficiency. We would feed ourselves and export food, as well. The economy will be diversified and would be resilient to crash in oil prices in the international market.

“I will love this administration to be remembered as one that met a vandalised Nigeria, and reset the buttons on almost all areas of national life — political, social, economic, local and international image. “I also want this government to be remembered as one that cleaned up the political space, especially in the area of elections. “We would bequeath clean electioneering to the country, secure our land within and without, and give Nigerians a pride of place locally and internationally. We will do our best, offer honest leadership, and surely God will crown the efforts.”
